BigBabyEarl Posted August 8, 2018 Share #1 Posted August 8, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) Given an oppprtunity to buy the same focal length in either CS or non is there any reason other than strobes to go with the CS? Protecting for a theoretical mirrorless S? I don’t use strobes and wouldn’t know how if I was forced to.

erlingmm Posted August 8, 2018 Share #2 Posted August 8, 2018 Functionally no, in my opinion. But a CS lens might hold used value better.
Photon42 Posted August 8, 2018 Share #3 Posted August 8, 2018 I would think any potential mirrorless S004 would still have a shutter built-in. Mind you, the 24 and the 100 do not even have a leaf shutter option. As this will only be in a couple of years, it may actually be a Global Shutter. So far, all my S-Lenses are non-CS. For the occasional fill-in flash outside you can still use an SF40 in HSS mode. Goes even further up to 1/4000. If the price difference is minimal, the CS is maybe the safer bet regarding retail and/or in case you change your mind and want to go pro with studio flashes. Two more thoughts: A leaf shutter can theoretically fail in a way that it renders the lens unusable and it comes with a little weight penalty.
