charleswang Posted July 27, 2018 Share #1 Posted July 27, 2018 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi all, Has anyone here had any experience with the base plate w/ battery door made by Leicatime (luigi)? http://www.luigicases.com/a000-M-Mates-Battery-SD-change.htm I've always preferred to not use any cases on my camera and thought the plate solution to be very elegant. My concerns are: Fit (is it too tight/loose? will it squeeze in the leather/metal?) Construction Color (does the silver paint match the top plate well?) Locking mechanism (appears to be different from Leica's - Is it secure?) Feedback is very much appreciated. P.S. a little bit of background: I finally made the switch to M10 a couple of days ago - sold my m240 and couple of vintage lens. Camera is on the way and very excited. P.P.S. Despite never posting here before I have been lurking around the forum for a while now. Hopefully I will be posting more in the future and I promise to be a good citizen Also apologized in advance if this question has been asked before - I couldn't find anything on this in particular. Many thanks, Charles Edited July 27, 2018 by charleswang

Many thanks, Charles The M-Mate10 baseplate looks great! I considered the same but I like using the Leica M10 Hand Grip too much to give it up just for quick access to the battery/SD card. Too bad I can't have the comfortable Leica M10 Hand Grip with easy access compartment to the battery/SD card. Hint, hint.
jaapv Posted July 27, 2018 Share #4 Posted July 27, 2018 I tried to sell a used M240 one on the B&S. No interest.
Bill W Posted July 28, 2018 Share #5 Posted July 28, 2018 I guess I do not understand what is so difficult with taking off the factory baseplate to change a battery. Other than possibly dropping it while changing I guess. I would spend the dollars on another battery myself. FWIW.
charleswang Posted July 28, 2018 Author Share #6 Posted July 28, 2018 I tried to sell a used M240 one on the B&S. No interest. I sold mine (a M-P 240) directly to the NY SoHo store at a pretty steep discount to market but the transaction was painless and fast. Selling elsewhere will most likely yield more but the hassle of waiting, negotiating and shipping etc. just wasn't worth it for me. I guess I do not understand what is so difficult with taking off the factory baseplate to change a battery. Other than possibly dropping it while changing I guess. I would spend the dollars on another battery myself. FWIW. I see your point - Leica's base plates are expertly machined and for the five years I've been using my 240 they are perfectly adequate - I had zero problem with them. However as we all know m10's battery is considerable smaller than m240's, hence my consideration.

Could you tell me more about your experience with the locking mechanism? It appears to not have the twisting pull-out lock of a regular Leica base plate, so how exactly does it work? enboe Posted July 28, 2018 Share #11 Posted July 28, 2018 Question: Does it compromise the water resistance?
Gobert Posted July 28, 2018 Share #12 Posted July 28, 2018 Why? An M10 is not water resistant.
