On the way to work at 6 am this morning. I Just got this lens yesterday. I have a few more from today comparing it against the 90 Apo Summicron-M. The 90 Summicron-SL is sharper wide open and, obviously, has more modern optics and coatings and controls the light so well. I will post more test shots later. There is nothing special about the look this lens creates except that it's perfect.

The sun is pretty low. Lens hood used on both. Slightly different angle and slightly slower shutter speed with the 90 Summicron-M. Still, what a difference modern coatings make.

One thing I love about this lens is the colors it produces.

I find SL 90 Cron a very useful lens for flower shots.

IS) 200; F2.0.

Slightly cropped.

So is the SL 75 Cron.

In many situations the difference between the Apo 90 Summicron-M and the Apo 90 Summicron-SL is hardly discernible but when light hits the lens directly from a light source the 90 SL handles it easily. I also compared the 90 Summicron SL to the 50 Summilux SL framing the pictures in such a way that the object in focus is about the same size. The Summicron SL is fantastic and has almost the same depth rendering as the 50 Summilux SL. I suspect some people will be willing to swap their 50 Summilux SL for the 50 Summicron SL when it comes out. I'll post those later. First, let's show one more 'STOP THIS' sign. These are popping up everywhere in the City now it seems. Again, from this morning.

But then not quite when light hits the lens directly from a light source.

How about depth rendering (not the same as 3D-Pop) and the drop-off behind the focus point wide open? In the shots below, I compared it to the 50 Summilux-SL. The angle of view is different, of course, but I moved closer to the subject of focus with the 1.4/50SL to make it appear equally big in the frame. It turns out the depth of field the 2/90SL produces wide open is almost as shallow as the one with 1.4/50SL at f/1.4. This has to do with the aperture size as I understand it. The Apo 90 Summicron-SL has an aperture size of 45 while the 50 Summilux-SL has one of 35.7. And the Apo 50 Summicron-SL will have one of only 25. Therefore, the 2/50SL should be producing a much greater depth of field wide open than either the 2/90SL or the 1.4/50SL. Let's take a look at a couple of over/under comparisons.

Stopped down to f/1.4 the 50 Summilux-SL is even sharper, of course. Depth rendering is still there despite the background being less blurred now.
