daveco Posted July 29, 2018 Share #46 Posted July 29, 2018 Great pics. If anyone is ever in Terre Haute, Indiana, there is a holecaust museum there. The owners are camp survivors, Eva Kor was at at Auschwitz with her twin sister, and her husband, Mickey, was at a different camp.

I'm very appreciative of all those who have glanced at this set and commented. Rob Edited July 29, 2018 by ropo54
OR120 Posted July 30, 2018 Share #55 Posted July 30, 2018 Rob I hate to say thank you for those photos ---- but ---- thank you. Many of the sights, buildings I've never seen before. Your detailed captions were most helpful in explaining just what I imagined I was really looking at. They are very difficult to look at and that's exactly why they need to be looked at.
ropo54 Posted July 30, 2018 Author Share #56 Posted July 30, 2018 (edited) Hi OR120, Thanks for your note. So very well expressed. Auschwitz was on my bucket list. A branch of my family tree (maternal great grandmother's side) perished there. I have never been able to comprehend the monstrous acts perpetrated by the Nazis - which encompassed the crazies along with the ordinary citizens. Their barbarism encompassed sadism, and seeing the 'proof' is imperative . . . otherwise it can become "fake news" or even worse, fade from history's consciousness. Regards, Rob Edited July 30, 2018 by ropo54

Regards, Rob Thank you very much Rob for this terrible report. I also lost most of my family in these camps. It is impossible for me to visit these places of horror, too many emotions. thanks again . vikasmg Posted July 31, 2018 Share #59 Posted July 31, 2018 (edited) To prevent a sudden panic, a Jewish orchestra was compelled to perform music in this spot as new camp arrivals entered, not knowing the fate that was to befall them. That has to be one of the most cynical things to do on top of the horrors committed. The mind boggles at what people are capable of. - Vikas Edited July 31, 2018 by vikasmg
vikasmg Posted July 31, 2018 Share #60 Posted July 31, 2018 Dear Rob I really want to thank you for this. At first I couldn't bring myself to look through these but I thought that if you had the courage to go there and share the pictures, I could at least muster the wherewithal to look at them. I'm glad I did. This is a very moving set. - Vikas
