DJI Ronin-S with SL

I’m interested in getting the latest DJI Ronin-S for stabilising the video footage with my SL. I’m only just starting to research it from the usability and compatibility angle. Have you done more research yourself and can share? Are there any users out there already with the SL?

Seems like video with the SL is limited to about 5% of the owners.

I recently purchased a Osmo Mobile 2 and upgraded my iPhone to a X ... added an anamorphic lens and variable ND filter to explore gimbals on the ground.

I found that the Phantom 4 Pro was wonderful for slow moves and very stable motion ... and the Osmo comes close ... even with my Clydesdale movements.

Perhaps the Ronin M is a bit better in that it allows two hand holds and a bit more weight.

I would use it with a VC 15 ... so that most things would be in acceptable focus.

The best things in the favor of the Ronin S are battery life and the 45 degree setup so that you can see the monitor ... but honestly a larger monitor/recorder outside

the gimbal would allow a better view and would be easier to see when moving.

I figure that a Movi 5 or the Ronin M will be my way forward ... mounting my PIX-E5 on the handles.

Eight to ten pounds weight in one hand will grow old very very quickly.

I may just use the iPhone X and FilmicPro to stage all of my movement shots and keep the SL on a video head. Perhaps the gimbal shots will be a bit limiting

if you are not chasing skateboarders or snowboarders.

Hi Meerec

Had the same query myself (although have yet to purchase the SL2). The Ronin S (rather than SC) seems to be compatible (as the payload for the SC is 2kg) Sl is 847g but if using the 24-90 (rather than the M lenses I would be using) it will come out at 1.98 kg.  The Ronin S is payload is  3.6 kg (8 lbs.). According to Steve Huff the Ronin S is HEAVY. That might be a deal breaker for you. Personally I would use it on the tripod and occasional tracking shots with an assistant. Stefano Guindani used the Leica SL2 with a DJI Ronin S in this video and seems pretty good to me:

Have had the Ronin S for a while, before acquiring the SL2, but sent it back, because of its weight. There are also no locking options, which makes it a nuisance to carry it around.

I have had some minutes to try to get the SL2 on the SC and balance was an issue. As it was on a local trade show, I haven’t had time to play around for long. But maybe with a counterweight and small lenses it could be possible.

I haven’t had an possibility to try out the ZHIYUN Weebill S, but this one could be working fine with the SL2 and is lighter and smaller than the Ronin S.

I own the Ronin-S ... it’s been sitting in the box dormant for a long time, I’ve even managed to replace my SL with SL2 and not used it yet. Haha. One day. I’m too busy. And it’s up to the task I’m sure.
