Should we laugh, or cry?

At the Yashica Y35, a pretend 'film' camera that's actually digital but must have settings changed by inserting a specific fake roll of film. You also have to wind it on.....

Sadly, the Yashica company of old is no more, but the rights to the name live on and the Y35 is being funded on Kickstarter and Indiegogo.

It rather makes me lose the will to live.

A possible upside?

Leica, after completion of Zagato, learn, through success of Y35, manual wind-on is popular and trendy with Millennials............determine to include such a feature on next rendition of digital M.

I want one!

It's a fantastic idea, make the kids think about what they want before they press the shutter, not see what they can conjure up in Lightroom days later. If I go out to photograph I change the settings in my head and know in advance if I'm shooting colour or B&W with my digital camera, I was taught the concept of 'visualisation' in my first lesson and it has never left me. But making a choice also involves having a reason, and if photographers can once again ask a similar question to 'what film are you shooting' then creativity can be talked about as well. The tactile nature of the camera won't go unnoticed either, and the act of advancing the image count with the advance lever is once again an acknowledgment for the photographer that each shot is important and in it's own moment.
