Well if you think that the grip is huge and monster, the only thing I can suggest is that you must have tiny, minuscule hands...

Or maybe the grip is large. I only report what my hand tells me after a day of shooting. My M10 and Sony’s don’t bother my hand.

There was a hint of irony in my last post. Whether or not the SL is too big for anyone is not my issue. It’s the silly language such as ‘monster’ or ‘huge’ to describe an item (SL) which is a few millimetres bigger than another item (M10).

Is my miniature Daschund a huge monster dog because he is slightly bigger than a Yorkshire Terrier?

No one is claiming it is your issue. It's not just a few millimeters larger than a M. Not accounting for the grip, extending eye cup, etc., doesn't discount the fact it is larger. In my opinion, much larger. You feel the language is silly. Noted.

What are the advantages of upgrading my Leica M8.2 to an M10?

 

I know all the technical stuff about the larger sensor, faster buffer etc., but will the M10 produce better A3 prints?

Easy to answer by actually printing them and evaluating side by side (You can download M10’s DNG from net). A blanket reply is not possible since only you know what quality do you expect from A3 prints.

 

As for my needs, any 10mp picture taken with good lens and with appropriate PP can be satisfactorily be printed up to A3 size.

The camera is one of dozens of variables in the print workflow. But the most important ones reside between your ears.... a good eye and good judgment..... just like taking a worthy photo in the first place. People can make mediocre prints from the best gear, and luscious prints from modest gear and materials. The standards for judging that print ‘quality’ also vary from person to person.

 

I owned the M8.2, and now the M10. Both are fully capable of producing wonderful prints in a disciplined workflow. The reasons for my choosing the M10 now relate more to the VF, the quieter and more refined shooting experience, better build quality and weather resistance, etc. I do, however, use the less refined MM for a unique b/w digital workflow.

At base ISO with good light and no technical issues in most situations the difference will be marginal, but it exists.

 

The difference will show more at this size when you get into images made at higher ISO's, or images that demand sensor that can deal with more dynamic range etc and subtle tone transitions. I was just going through some old m8 shots at ISO 640 and they were terrible compared even to 1600 on the M10, for example.
