New CV Nokton 50/1.2

I saw this... and I happen to be in the market for a 50 noctilux-like lens but haven't pursued the nocti for the following four reasons:

1) 1 m MFD

2) underwhelming acuity wide open beyond the center of the image

3) CA at large apertures

4) price

It looks like the CV 50/1.2 will likely address 1 and 4; hopefully 2 and 3 as well.

It's announcement so soon after the 1,2/40 release would suggest that its behavior should be different; otherwise, why bother for an additional 10mm FL?

Whether this means no focus shift, better control of CA or flatter field remains to be demonstrated.

For me 40mm is very different from 50mm and not to forget the framelines!

DSLM users don't care about this, but RF users do ;)

A comparison with the 50/1.1 would be interesting too.

MFD seems to be an obvious difference, but I wonder whether they changed the optical formula.

I am curious if this is a replacement for the 1.1, somewhat slower to improve IQ.

I suppose is like this... probably they'll stop production of the 1,1 (but several items are still around , I think) : no much sense to have both on regular pricelist / availability... maybe they are thinking (or drawing) a f 0,9 to have a "real Noct" :p  (and, if I were them, I'd do it not exactly 50...)

First shot with this lens, on a TL2: in the dealer's while trying it out before purchase. F4 I think. Impressively sharp lens. (BTW straight OOC no corrections of any kind.)

APOLOGIES ALL – THIS IS THE 40MM NOT THE 50!

I asked someone on the Flaghead stand at TPS about the new 50mm f1.2 Nokton. They have no idea when stock will arrive and no cost information, but expect it to be similar to the 40mm f1.2.

The CV range of M mount lenses is looking quite interesting the build quality Is impressive throughout.

I’ve been in the market for a fast 50mm M lens since I sold my noctilux f1 a few years ago. After seven years of using it, I came to the realisation that I didn’t like it very much. I could get a summilux, but I’m not convinced I would like that very much, either.

This CV f1.2 lens is currently vapourware and Flaghead don’t even know if it will appear this year, but it could eventually be The One, if I like it. In the meantime, I’ll struggle on with my modest 50mm Elmar-m, which I do like. A lot.

I wish Lensbaby would make a coupled Burnside or Velvet. I’d like those, too.
