The only thing I use a touchscreen for is to make the camera focus on the spot I touch and take a picture. M's don't do that tho.... even if fitted with a touch screen.

I use the display only for the settings. It consumes only unnecessary power.

Perhaps you can touch the screen to focus?

I would rather have a firmware update that speeds up live view with the Visoflex mounted.

Welcome to The Leica forum. Before you comment on rumours I think you need to belong to the Leica community for longer than a few days, to read the members discussions, and (even better) to own an M. Then you need to think logically about what you are posting.

Touch screens would have no real value on a Leica M except to enable changes to be made to settings. On the M10,the most important settings can be made externally on the body. Focusing is always manual.

Take a look at the Leica Q to see what the touch screen can do.

Thanks.

Well, I own several film Ms and one M-P Typ240. What does that have to do with my posting?

I was curious to see what others think of this rumoured M10-P.

I think it is a great idea, if touchscreen implies the buttons placed at the back disappear.

The photo parameters need physical controls (buttons and wheels, for ISO, aperture, exposure time... ), but the computer parameters (formatting cards, white balance method, date and hour,  light metering method...) should be placed in a separated "computer" area, with modern "computer" controls (= touchscreen).

The TL camera is a prototype for future cameras, and the lessons learned should be applied to future SL, M and S cameras.

I like the M10 just the way it is personally. I have favorites set up for what I need quickly. Sunnymoone there are no rules bough how long you need to be a member of the forum to post a rumor. FWIW

My apologies to the OP.

It’s true, there are no rules for posting relative to membership. The point I wanted to make is that the M10 is a manually focused camera and tapping a touch screen to fix focus isn’t going to be practical. It wasn’t obvious that you already had Leica bodies, I thought that you may not have been aware of the limited usefulness of a touch screen when combined with manual lenses.

As far as using the touch screen for file management etc, I just don’t see the benefits. Just finger marks.

I like the way the M10 is designed physically and operationally. I liked my M9-P. If certain people hadn’t insisted (and I believed them ) that the M240 was a vast improvement, I wouldn’t have got rid of my M9-P. Then I got rid of my M240 because it was uncomfortable for me to hold. I never used it and was happy to see it go. It seems that many original fans of the M240 didn’t actually enjoy it.

It’s very easy to believe that New is better. I’ve learned to my cost that one should proceed with caution. I certainly don’t want a computer based camera, but that is the direction that the industry has gone. My Leica Q is very comprehensive and capable, but with one primary focal length I find it boring to shoot with. Eventually, my Q will be a brick. I’m stopping at this point with the M10.

Maybe touch screen will appear on a future M, but by then, I may have a no screen M10.

What an arrogant, unfriendly response to a new forum member.

Why on earth should you assume that a 'newbie' only has limited photographic or Leica experience? I've only just joined but I've been using Leica's for over 30 years.

I certainly won't be hanging around here for long if it's that unfriendly.

Oh dear!

Don’t go.

Read my apology.

Actually, I quite agree with you on some points.

After navigating through most of the digital Leica world over the last decade or so (and spending an outrageous amount of money!), I find myself reverting backwards towards the simpler Leicas. I know it has disadvantages but my go-to camera is now my M9M over my Q even though I use 28mm on both of them.  I love the simplicity of the M9/M9M as well as their images.

While I'm quite interested to ses how Leica does implement a touch screen on a rangefinder, I somehow don't think I'm going to be a buyer.
