Using Fuji EF-X20 flash with your Q

I'm trying to find a simple and small flash to carry along with my Q for when the occasion arises. This little Fuji system seems like it might just do the trick, even though it's all manual. Anyone have any experience with using this flash on their Q?

I had one early on when I acquired the Q. It works as a fill flash. As I remember it has AAA batteries. Its small which is good and bad. I ended up then with the Leica SF-26 and later I upgraded to the SF-40. I’m finally satisfied with the SF-40. It’s definitely much larger, but it uses AA batteries and I can tilt the flash and bounce the light. Its a personal preference based upon my use model. I do like it.

I like the Metz 34 CS-2 Digital. For a non-dedicated flash, with three auto F/Stops, full manual and an optical slave function, it is hard to beat.

You can pick one up for less than $100.00. It is compact and powerful and uses 2xCR2 Lithium Batteries, so it recycles fast, and is Made in Germany.

It also comes with a tele and wide diffuser, so it actually covers a 28mm wide-angle.

 

I have one and have used these on Leica M, Q, Fujifilm and other cameras. It's a real 'sleeper'

The Sunpak PZ20XD, the Panasonic PE-20S and the Nikon SB-30 are my trio of tiny flashes with AUTO mode. Truly tiny, anything else are at least a tad larger while being more powerful as well. The Sunpak is especially attractive since it has a easy-to-use slave mode and use readily available AAA batteries.

Thank you I appreciate your respond. But I do have a question, are you stating that those flash units you reference to are compatible with the Leica Q? I was not aware that any flash unit other than a Leica could be used in the Auto Mode.

Just curious, what adapter do you you use to attach the Metz to the Q? Is it the same for the Fuji?

Look up BigHeadTaco from Youtube. He made a video with this exact combo and he tested if the flash syncs up to 1/2000 s (it does). EF-X20 being all manual there is zero issues with using it with Q.

 

If you are willing to go manual, the options are plentiful. I got myself a Meike MK320 which also acts as all-manual for Q. Not bad, considering it can be had new for 50 eur, shipped. (But it's 200 g (double the weight of Fuji EF-X20) and I don't want to carry it with me) :{
