corrupt files from M10?

I have worked with two different M10 bodies this year and in both cases I found some corrupt files between my photos. It is something I have never experienced from any other digital camera I worked with (including the M240, M246, Fujis, Sonys and Nikons).

The local Leica store and I are trying to figure out what it is that goes wrong here.

I'm attaching a sample file. This happens on average once per 300 to 400 shots. The problem is not visible on the camera monitor, because the embedded jpg image is okay. It is only when you open the DNG file that you find this incomplete image.

The first time I saw this, I placed a new card in the camera, but it still happened. And now I see it happening in a second M10 camera.

As far as I can tell it is not a problem with the card. It is also not caused by a hard disk problem on my Mac, because I've checked the file on several computers. It is undoubtedly something that happens in the camera.

What I do know is that it is not caused by switching off the camera when it is still writing.

My question is: has anyone else experienced this?

The problem shown above is typical for a corrupted memory card. There also might be a hardware defect in the data path, such as the electric contacts in the camera's card slot ... or in the card reader's cord or the USB socket (which would mean the data corruption might happen not in the camera). Or whatever. But the first suspect, in my opinion, would be the memory card itself.

My first suspect was the card also, so I bought a new one when I first spotted the problem (this was with the first body). It happened with the new card also. Both were Lexar Premium 64gb cards. I had used the first card without problems on other cameras.

The fact that it happened on both cameras makes it highly unlikely that it is a camera problem, unless ten people in this forum come forward because they recognize it.

My bet is also on the cards, but the fact that one was new and both were formatted in the camera makes it all very confusing.

I'll try that. I have some heavy shooting coming up later this week, so if that rhythm of once every 300 to 400 shots continues it should happen again shortly. Thanks for all your responses. I'll keep you posted.

FIRMWARE (2.4.5.0) LEICA M10

Also, check to make sure you are using the latest M10 firmware. Early M10 firmware had problems with various SD cards. So far I have had good luck with the Sandisk cards too running latest M10 firmware. I use SanDisk Extreme PRO 64GB SDXC Flash Memory Card with up to 95MB/s. Check to make sure the card is authentic from a reputable retail store/shop.

See if the camera can read the corrupted photo.  I would also clean the contacts,  liberally wet the card copper and slide it in & out of camera.  Liberal means wet but not so much fluid gets all over inside of camera.

Can an M10 use 64 GB cards?   Check instructions.

Try another NEW card and format it in the camera before use.   Always format in camera it will be used in.

Never erase a file or file allocation location algorithm can cause file separation .
