Noctilux to EVF or not........

Guys

I recently got a new M10 so that I could continue using my Noctilux 0.95 that had been sitting in a dry box for over a year since I sold the ugly SL.

My first chance of using the Noctilux on the M!0 was while i was on holiday in Barcelona Spain. While there I used the EVF exculpatory as my diopter is really not set up correctly and to be honest I got amazing results with the EVF just that it eats the batteries like crazy. I'm sure if I can get the correct diopter the RF will be fine but at the end of the day it really shouldn't matter right,......in fact that's what I am thinksng to just go ahead and use the EVF exculpatory and just buy more batteries........what do the owner era of the Noctilux prefer to use on the M!0??

Neil,

I use the rangefinder/viewfinder exclusively for my f/1 Noctilux on my M10.  (If I was going to use an EVF then I'd use my SL instead.)  I wear specs but don't use a diopter and I haven't had a problem nailing focus wide open once I'm back in practice*.  I prefer to use the RF/VF because I like it better ergonomically and I'm much faster than with an EVF and I find speed important for street photography or candid portraits.

*I find that if I haven't used used the Noctilux for a while it takes a little time - say, an hour or an afternoon depending how long it's been - before I can confidently achieve focus wide open.  I suspect it's largely a muscle memory thing.

You sold a camera because you thought it was ugly

I dunno about anyone else, but I spend a lot more time looking through a camera, and at what it produces, then looking at the camera.

You need to feel comfortable with your tool!

".... just that it eats the batteries like crazy. "

My experience was the capacity of the batteries increased significantly after a few recharge cycles.

I forgot about that mate.............and I think you are correct, my last outing was defiantly better than the first few, I put it down to less shots but maybe not so.

Cheers

The EVF is for wimps but I use it all the time with the 75 Noctilux wide open because triangulation error is too big when recomposing so that the subject of focus is not in the center.

Hay Chemo

I'm cool with joining the ranks of the wimps to save on the many disappointments I get without the EVF, Like Pete said it would sure be quicker with the buttery smooth focus ring of the Noctilux, except I too have been diagnosed with triangulation since turning 40 plus, and at the end of the day, if I am out shooting my daughter, I want to make sure that I nail her every time, rather than both of us being disapointed

Use what you like best, but you paid a lot of money for the privilege of using a rangefinder camera. A bit of a waste

If you have triangulation yourself, you shouldn't need a camera for focussing at all, because the basic principle of a rangefinder is...triangulation ;)

Don’t take it personally. It was a joke. I was paraphrasing Gordon Gekko.

Not really mate...........the cost is immaterial, at the end of the day I am looking for image quality and a cool looking camera, first impressions of my new M10 is just that

Different strokes.

For me, like putting a roof rack on an Aston coupe.... bad look and not part of its core design and use.

Jeff

Hypocrite

You use a thumbsy..........which is also ugly and defiantly not part of its core design. At least the EVF comes from Leica :)
