Android app for M10

I talked to a staff member of a Leica store 2 weeks ago who told me that Leica plans to create one app which can communicate with different Leica-camera-models (instead of having an extra app for each model).

He also said that it might come in autumn during the photokina and might also be made for Android. We'll see...

That sounds promising...........cool

Thanks

I am seriously fed up with Leica. Why develop an app for a proprietary platform which has the minority market share, whilst ignoring the open source platform with the majority of users? I can only describe this as prejudiced. Yup, Leica hates us Android users. I refuse to support any company that does not support Android, and I bought my M10 in good faith. Yes I would be prepared to give up Leica for this reason alone.

I guess I am strange, I have an iPhone but have never downloaded the M10 camera app. I did for the SL and S when I had it but the interface was pretty bad. I did not buy my M10 for the ability to use a phone with it. I bought the M10 because it is a fabulous camera with fabulous glass.  :)

Developing for Android isn't developing for one huge market, it is developing for hundreds of tiny markets. It's a fractured os, with a ton of variance device to device. iOS is much simpler.

But that said, they've managed their other cameras, so the lack of M support is annoying.

When I bought the M10, I knew there was no app for my Android phone (and I definitely didn't and don't plan to buy an apple phone). I bought the M10 because I knew what it can do together with one of their fine lenses: create just great photographs.

Alright, and I also knew that Leica delivered an app for my Leica Q which I am quite satisfied with. So if Leica comes up with that combined app in autumn, I will be even more pleased...

For what the hell does someone need an app for the M10?

Exactly........cant imagine ever using a stupid app on a phone to take pictures ............most phones have a camera built in dont they??

I've developed apps for both IOS and Android (and Linux, Windows, MacOS...) and, Android is not really an issue - it's a lot better than it was, anyway. Depends if Leica uses any proprietary code for communication. (i.e. are the docs available).

What I don't have is an M10 - my wonderful M8 is no use here!

Auto-focus obviously, but on a more serious note: Wifi transfer connection to a desktop/laptop would be much nicer. But I miss neither. Camera is for taking photographs not for fiddling around with phones etc.

Rubbish

If you have ever taken pictures of people then it is a great tool for them to see how they look on an iPad during the shoot and to make necessary adjustments as and when needed

I'm sure there are great use-cases for WiFi on the M10, but I use or need them. My other cameras also have WiFi capabilities, but (as with the M10) I find them cumbersome (crappy apps, unreliable, unstable, etc.). So indeed; rubbish, but that's my opinion. Same goes for a video option on an M-camera (another rabbit-hole). I'd rather use my battery-life for taking photos instead.

The only time I used a remote app was for some macro shooting with my Nikon, but the (desktop) app connected through USB and had focus capabilities, so I could stay away from the camera (avoid moving it at all).

With my Leica Q (there is an app for that) I found it nice to share some of my JPGs with my family/friends while I was on the Azores last year. That way I could use those (much nicer) pictures instead of additionally taking out my phone to take another picture during my hikes. In the evenings I used the WiFi of my accommodation to upload some pictures.
