The hidden secrets of the Q...

I only shoot PASM, usually Av with Shutter on A and auto ISO.

Sick of carrying DSLR kits to our friend's July 4th fireworks party, I only carried my Q this year.

Out of curiosity with the new menus in firmware 3.0, I (re)discovered the "Scene" modes.  Wow, there is a "fireworks" scene and I chose it.

The results were spectacular.

Without having a tripod, I had to handhold for the 4 second exposures (and another 4 seconds of noise reduction.  So you can only shoot every 10~12 seconds.

The Q is one helluva point-n-shoot when needed!

I never thought about using one of the scene modes for fireworks.   This shot was taken leaving Disney California Adventure park a few weeks ago.  Hand held f/1.7, 1/30s, ISO 1000.  Nothing special composition wise, but part of the story of our trip.   Youngest grandson is 6 -- the perfect Disney age.

That is a fine image. The young lady, highlighted by the wonder of the moment, is all alone in her world of Disney magic.
