Hello Everybody,

I have come across a roll of Portra 160 that has been sitting in a drawer for a long time. It expired 2 years ago.

Any ideas about how this would effect film speed or/& processing?

By the way, I have not used it yet.

Best Regards,

Michael

Two years is nothing, it should be just fine with regular exposure and processing.

Hello Mike,

Thank you.

That is interesting. I asked the question because at the same time: I had a roll of Portra 160 & a roll of Ektar 100 developed & printed. They had photos on them that were taken about 4 or 5 years ago.

Both rolls, done at the same place, at the same time, came back very thin. Between 3 & 5 stops underexposed. This is a place that has always done really good processing over many years.

Any ideas. So far you are doing just fine.

Best Regards,

Michael

Last year I developed a roll of print film I shot in 2009 and forgot about. It developed well and the images were all good, I have developed film that has been exposed and forgotten for over 20 years and have shot film 10 years expired. You do lose some colour at that age but it usually works.

One thing I have noticed is that Fuji film ages much better than Kodak.
