Barbara and I do a 4 mile speed walk around a lake any morning when we are home (weekend, working from home, holiday) when the weather permits.  This woman, who we nicknamed "Skippy" runs and skips rope at least two hours every morning, beginning just before first light.

Too much shock for the body jumping up and down, or even jogging. And according to statistics, that's when heart attacks occur most often, in the morning, during strenuous exercises.

Speed walking is one of the best exercises for people who want to keep in shape with minimum shock to the body.

Great shot Stuny. Nothing is more vivifying than a good run in the morning clean air. As we know from the ancient times, running is the mother of all sports.

This lady seems to be a great condition; and lucky to be in right environment for that. In South Florida at this time of the year, it becomes more a matter of will! :)

I don't know what her aims might be, but that amount of long, slow distance every day will eventually catch up with her in injury and chronic fatigue.

Perhaps suggest to her next time that a shorter run twice a week at faster tempo, and a once-weekly trip to the track for sprints, will pay greater dividends than endless laps around the neighborhood at aerobic pace.

Steve, Roy & Louis - Thank you.

Allan & Misako - Thank you.  Barbara and I also have some concern for her for precisely the reasons you state.  We suspect she is addicted to her routine, and guess her age to be about 50 so problems are not likely to be far off.  She always goes counter-clockwise around the lake, and our first 2 1/2 laps are clockwise so we pass one another one to four times per session.  She is intensely focused on her routine and our only interaction is when passing her while she is just running, resting her arms for a bit.  Then it's no more than, "Good morning."

She is addicted. Once you reach this level of fitness, you truly MUST have it every day. Take it from someone who has been there, 70 miles a week, though you'd never know it now.

Even such a small change as alternating clockwise to counterclockwise, so as to balance the camber of the road, would benefit her health at such high weekly mileage.
