Rafael Jimenez Posted July 3, 2018 Share #1 Posted July 3, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) I could realy use some help. I recently sent my M6ttl to Leica for a estimate to reapair the damage from a bad case of corrosion that started in the top plate and latter extended to several other parts of the camera. I purchased the camera new, and also purchased a leica leather case and stored it for a few years. Now its very ugly. The lady in charge of customer care says that the M6 does NOT suffer top plate corroson, only the M9 has that problem, and the estimate to repair my M6 is 1870.00 I want to send her the many articles about corrosion in certain M6´s. But I will greatly appreciate any sugestions for anyone who can help me out with this. Rafael

jaapv Posted July 3, 2018 Share #2 Posted July 3, 2018 I think there is a Babylonian confusion here. The M6 suffers from top plate corrosion, but the M9 has large problems with sensor corrosion. The brass top plate of the M9 will not corrode, unlike the Zinc one on the M6. The lady was clearly confused and giving you the sensor replacement information - and incorrectly at that; the full price is 1870 Euro, but Leica charges about 1000 presently-. I would suggest you call again, Wetzlar this time, and ask for Mrs Frankl. On a sidenote - it is always a very bad idea to store camera gear in a leather case. Was there a lens on the camera? Chances are that it was destroyed by fungus - check it out!
