As a long-time (and now long-former resident) of San Diego (1979-1990) I had to look up "Liberty Station" to see what that is as I have no recollection of such a place during my residency there.  Lo and behold... it is the very Naval Training Center where I attended boot camp in March of 1974.   Fond memories (and some not-so-fond memories) there indeed.   Worm Island... the grinders... the galley... and the dispensary where I spent three days in isolation with a combined case of measles and boot camp creeping crud.  I was in the Recruit Drum and Bugle Corps and never got to play on the USS Neversail.  Thanks for posting these.

Hepcat thank you for your service!!!  🙂

Liberty Station is now a nice place to enjoy San Diego: outdoor park space, museums, restaurants, beer brewing, tea & coffee shops, small golf club, a Craft Art Collective, painting & ceramic work shops, markets, and a growing list (still undergoing renovation).

Something very nice has risen (Phoenix bird) from the old Navel training site.

Cheers,

Scott

Summicron-R 35 II on the SL601.

Much though I love my Summilux-M 35 pre-Asph, this is what I tend to take out if I'm doing some serious landscape work. It's a lovely lens and a pleasure to use.

Isn't it a marvellous lens. I use it quite a lot on my M10-R as well as my R cameras. I must sell my 21mm/f4 Super Angulon-R as it just never gets used now.

Yes, the R 21-35 is a super lens but so is the R 21/4 Super Angulon provided it's stopped down to at least f8 and preferably f11 – which some photographers might be reluctant to use. All Super Angulons (designed by Schneider) image best at small apertures – and LF enthusiast friends attest to this fact.

I had just recently convinced myself that I can stop coveting the 80 Summilux and now you've pulled me back in 🙂 This looks great.
