I am about to update my system to an iMAC but these days, of course, they do not come with a digital disk reader. Is there a preferred model which people use for loading images from processing  Labs' CDs?

Sorry, just noticed spelling in Topic Title but cannot find any way to correct.

I really have messed this up, Guys, I am so sorry but had hoped that maybe a Moderator would correct the first title word to BEST.

Not only that, but it seems I have used entirely the incorrect term for what I seek. It has been pointed out that "Digital Reader" in tech parlance refers to things like electronic book readers, whereas I should have said "CD/DVD Drive".

Hope that clarifies.

Richard

Hi Richard:

I asked the same question to my longtime friend and computer guru, since I'm also faced with reluctantly 'upgrading' to an iMac soon - the Apple external CD drive has mixed reviews and is an absurd price - he recommended either the Transcend TS8XDVDS-W, or the LG GP65NS60 (the LG also has M disc support, fwiw). I'll probably try the LG - if it's as good as our LG tv and washing machine, I'll be happy :-)

Thank you, Sam. I have been looking around and had homed in on the LG model. I agree the Apple version does not figure at all well. I had not seen the Transcend. Only problem with buying iMAC is the fixed prices so getting a good deal on a new machine is almost impossible.

I’m not a fan of iMacs. You’re locked into the monitor, which, albeit pretty good for general use, is certainly not optimal for photo editing, upgrading can be problematic as well.

Please elaborate.
