Any difference in AF performance between Novoflex Canon/Nikon adapter

Is there any difference in AF performance and number of lenses with good experience between the Novoflox Nikon to SL and Canon to SL adapters?

I want to buy one of the adapters and try a few lenses, mainly interested in a few Sigma Art lenses (14mm and 24mm). Most information I find in the forum relates to Canon mount lenses.

Any comparison between the two?

Thanks!

I just bought an adapter Nikon lens to M mount body. With Micro 55 and 105 mm focus is quite sharp, but with older Ai type (70s) it's a bit soft.

I think IQ  depends a lot of the lens, less of the adaptator. Novoflex in any case should be good.

For focussing I use EVF.

There are 2 threads about this if you search several pages back on this section of the forum.

The original Canon AF Adapter thread was mostly contributed to by a guy who had access to most of the Sigma Art Lenses and was highly optimistic and forgiving of their performance as far as AF speed, accuracy and reliability was concerned. Ditto with Canon lenses. Some work well, some slowly and some completely unreliably .... and to complicate matters there seems to be some variability even between different copies of identical lenses.

The situation with the Nikon adapter is a bit simpler ....... the range of Nikon lenses which work is tiny as only a handful have electronic shutters ..... and most seem OK. Similarly Nikon compatible Sigma's seem to be more consistent in performance. I have the Sigma Art 135/2 which works ..... and is quite quick and accurate .... but often needs a second shutter press to find focus. The Canon version of the lens didn't work at all with the Novoflex Canon AF adapter and I returned both for the Nikon versions.

Get the adapter and/or the lenses on a trial and return basis as 'acceptable' AF performance is very hit and miss. It's a big gamble financially. Having said that with the 14 & 24 Sigmas you could always resort to manual focus which is easy on the SL, and you will still have auto shutter, which is the most important thing.

That's good information thanks!

I've read both topics, couldn't really conclude if there's a better option between the Novoflex SL/NIK (Nikon) and Novoflex SL/EOS (Canon). Since I don't own either Canon or Nikon mount lenses and I'm more interested in some of the Sigma offerings I don't really have a big preference in the mount, but more with autofocus performance.

I assume there's none in the forum that has/had both adapters that can share their experience?

no ...... as the Novoflex is expensive and most buy it to use with existing Canon or less commonly, Nikon lenses.

You are basically in unknown territory and will have to find out by trial and error ......  :D

I was interested in the Sigma 24/1.4 for astro work ...... however clearly at night AF is not a priority ..... but as I now have the 16-35 I have ditched all the other primes I have in that range and can't really justify adding another just for very occasional use.
