Stealth3kpl Posted June 21, 2018 Share #1 Posted June 21, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) The other day I was wandering around Ilkley (with a hat on, incidentally). I had put my rucksack on and had my MP slung over my shoulder. I called in at the supermarket and went to pay at the till. My wallet was in my sack and I bent over as I took off my sack to lower it to the ground in one motion. There was a great clack as my MP fell from my shoulder to the ground. You might imagine it was that that prompted the title of this thread, but you'd be wrong. I picked up the camera and there was not a dent to be seen. I gave it a shake but not a sound. I wound it on and it was as smooth as silk. I looked through the viewfinder and the rangefinder images were both as clear as the day it arrived. There was no vertical misalignment and the lens focused as smoothly as ever bringing the rangefinder into alignment whatever the object distance. I had got away without any damage. I couldn't believe it. I'm never that lucky. Fast forward to today. I finished the film off at work and rewound the film into the cassette. Once home, I took off the baseplate to remove the cassette, and with a couple of taps out it came into the palm of my hand. Well most of it anyway. I think the jolt caused the end ring of my reusable cassette to pop off in-camera, no doubt allowing light into the Neopan 400 to ruin many of the images from the last 6 months as the cassette lay in my hand whilst I watched the end-ring drop to the carpet. Good Grief! Just something else for us to consider should the camera ever hit the floor again. Pete

jmahto Posted June 21, 2018 Share #2 Posted June 21, 2018 If I understand correctly, this could be a problem only for reusable cassette. Right! On the plus side (other than lesson learned) your camera is not broken after such a drop.
Keith (M) Posted June 21, 2018 Share #3 Posted June 21, 2018 I shall try not to put my MP through a similar experience... Shame about the lost shots - but glad to read the camera/lens appears to be fine!
