This year's One Challenge (the 15th in Europe!) is being held in Lyon, France, at noon on Saturday 13th October, and this the start of the thread that grows over the coming months. Everyone is welcome! I am very pleased to say that Christoph, Veronique and Philippe have kindly done a lot of work in organising the Challenge this year and their local knowledge has been put to very good use. They will be along later with the details for venues for the lunch and dinner (I will open a separate thread for that in due course), so I am very grateful for that help. We look forward to seeing fellow forum members for what I believe is one of the highlights of the forum year. I'll be staying with friends who live almost next door to the Mercure Lumiere hotel mentioned in the guide. There's a metro station (San-Souci) a minute's walk from the hotel and it's a short journey into the centre. There's a very good restaurant - Restaurant Marguerite - very close to the hotel (no I don't have shares in the Accor hotel chain), I've had several excellent lunches there. One other thing, there's a funicular railway that goes from the old town to the top of the hill behind the old cathedral - that might save the legs. Finally, anyone driving to Lyon will need a Crit Air sticker for the car. Details here... https://www.certificat-air.gouv.fr/en/ Cost is around 4 Euros to the UK, and as part of the process you'll need to upload a scan of your registration document. There are other sites offering to get you one for 30 Euros, they're rip off merchants. I saw one of my Lyonaise friends last week and he knew nothing about the certificate, though they don't use their car much. Pete. Fines of between 68-135 Euros, I don't know if they're on the spot or not. I've driven to Paris a couple of times this year, plus going through France to get to other European cities and never realised such a thing existed. For 4 Euros I'll probably get one so that I'm at least legal on one thing; I never bother with the head light deflectors and my breathalyzers must be years out of date. Eventually you get used to French drivers swerving into ditches at night. The sticker for non-electric cars has a category from A to E depending on how polluting the engine is.
