Advertisement Posted June 13, 2018 Posted June 13, 2018 Hi colint544, Take a look here Leica M10 Zagato Edition. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
colint544 Posted June 13, 2018 Author Share #2 Posted June 13, 2018 I might add, that it looks to me more like a design exercise, than an actual camera. The repeating 'ZAGATO' around the front of the lens looks very un-Leica, as does the fussiness in the design of the top plate

camnh Posted June 13, 2018 Share #7 Posted June 13, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) I like the idea of the milled aluminum body, but black anodized. I'd need to feel the milling though to decide if it was usable vs. horrible (if that makes sense to any of you - I abhor the way some things feel. ) I also don't need a "Zagato" marked lens. jaapv Posted June 13, 2018 Share #8 Posted June 13, 2018 Increasing the bulk of a design that das been slimmed down as much as possible and then covering it in corrugated metal is, unfortunately, a confused design statement IMO.
indergaard Posted June 13, 2018 Share #9 Posted June 13, 2018 (edited) Might I say: Yuk? Indeed. It looks hideous. But the reduced weight of 70 grams due to using aluminium instead of brass would be neat to get in a regular M10. All the finely milled aluminium groves that is used for the grip is gonna look yellow/brownish and dirty as soon as someone puts their hands on it... The most interesting part is that it looks like the lens is a Summilux 35 ASPH FLE with an integrated slide-out hood? RonM Posted June 13, 2018 Share #10 Posted June 13, 2018 (edited) All the finely milled aluminium groves that is used for the grip is gonna look yellow/brownish and dirty as soon as someone puts their hands on it... Assuming someone buys it to USE it! Looks like another special (read: expensive!) "collectable." Edited June 13, 2018 by RonM
willemr Posted June 13, 2018 Share #11 Posted June 13, 2018 And not even a wired remote shutter option..... Deal-breaker IMO
jaapv Posted June 13, 2018 Share #12 Posted June 13, 2018 With a Cw value that rivals the Colosseum, and then call it Zagato...
Gobert Posted June 13, 2018 Share #13 Posted June 13, 2018 Wow, contrary with everybody here, having no taste, I love the design.
NigelG Posted June 13, 2018 Share #14 Posted June 13, 2018 +1 Presumably many people here would prefer their silver L lenses to have a leatherette focus ring rather than the current beautiful milled aluminium this design seems to reference....
a.noctilux Posted June 13, 2018 Share #15 Posted June 13, 2018 Nowhere to put on a Visoflex ? No flash socket ?
colint544 Posted June 13, 2018 Author Share #16 Posted June 13, 2018 (edited) I don't hate the design, but I've always liked the Leica ethos of ruthlessly banishing unnecessary features and ornamentation from their cameras. The pared-down lines of an M2, or standard M10, are a hymn to Bauhaus design. This has quite a fussy top plate, for no obvious practical reason, and extra bulk at the front. I also wonder how slippery that grip might be, especially as the fluting runs vertically. But I take my hat off to Leica - they never fail to create something fascinating, which gets people talking. LocalHero1953 Posted June 13, 2018 Share #18 Posted June 13, 2018 (edited) ALL special editions are panned for their looks, without exception. I don't instinctively dislike it. Using aluminium or alloy has to be a step forward to reduce weight. I like the idea of a milled aluminium body. Next step is to get rid of the base plate and just have a single skin machined base unit. I don't use a grip, so I would rather not have the extra curves this edition has, but plenty of people here seem to like grips and half cases, all adding much more to the bulk than this. Well worth doing this as an experiment IMO - and it's paid for by rich people who can afford to suffer a few design mishits - what not to like?
