Hi everyone,

I'm wondering if anyone has discovered a good way to transport the DR goggles when they're not in use. I have yet to find an original case but I feel like a simple neoprene sleeve would be sufficient enough to protect it in my pocket or bag. Has anyone figured out a good solve for this?

Or an alternative question perhaps is, do they even need protection?

I've been experimenting with those type of wraps (have a couple for lenses and what not when I don't carry a camera bag) but they're all much bigger than needed. I'm going to look for a very small one :)

This old device with prism and doublet lens may be misaligned and/or lens separation when knock.

I had one some ten years ago suffered while careless transportation with lens or prism/lens separation.

Leitz/Leica provided a leather case COONH/14627 for it's protection.

I don't have this case ;)

Now, when in doubt, I put SDPOO in small pouch or case with some kind of shock absorber and use it without trouble.

A binocle hard case can be used also.

Edit:

I forgot to mention that I have one with cracked front lens (round one).

I've never know how that occured.

By chance I do have some spares -_-.

Fortunately my 50DR and goggles came with it's case - neatly attached to the camera case, not so fortunately though the goggles have suffered from a tiny area of separation (as you can just see in the photo), not sure when or how, and at first I thought it was a finger print.  Not visible when mounted through the viewfinder though - so other than it annoying me to know it's there no affect so far.

There is a case listed on e-bay at the moment (Netherlands), not too ridiculously priced.

You could go to a Tandy leather shop --- they often have small pouch kits or often they have club members who could fabricate one for you. FWIW in one of their plans books they had plans for a leather case for the lens with the finder mounted, as well as a modification which also had the camera mounted, For the truly ambitious, they pictured a completed one in tooled leather. It was gorgeous.
