Recently bought, mainly to use the Macro-Elmarit-R 2.8/60mm. I find it handles very smooth and the metering system is wonderful!

Hi Sandro, still have my R4sII and my R6.2 and use them both from time to time. I like the design and the handling very much. Both accompanied me on a lot of interesting trips.

Here is the place to show your R4!

I prefer the R3 which has a nice shutter action, although the R4 has multi mode metering and is usefully smaller/lighter.

The R4 has a reputation for electronic issues in its day, but a working example now should be fine. That said most R's (including the R3 as I've found) can suffer age related electronic issues.

Bargain Leica's!

I'll show you mine as you seem to get almost no responses, summer vacation ? :-)

BTW your gear looks great !!!

My R4 works fine! I have a few instances where the R3 won't advance film, then I pull a few times and it engages again.

I may loose a few images on a 36 image roll, and  although irritating I have decided to hang on to it as one doesn't get much for those even if it worked flawlessly, and I bought it new so :-)

The film advance is probably an easy fix for a repairer. I also have an R3 from new and wish I could get it fixed but it's a shutter fault and either can't be done or would cost a silly amount of money. I've found another of the same type (late MOT) so am trying to convince myself it's the same camera!

I would if I could figure out this system.  Am I supposed to post it in the gallery first, and then use that address as the URL?

Show us your elegant R4s please!

Sorry for the late response.  As I've said before, a lovely little camera.  The PA Curtagon, however, is significantly limited by the 7mm rise.  I'm pondering a PC Super Angulon purchase, but the weight and expense are issues.  (I currently have an Olympus Om-4Ti with a 35mm shift lens, but its main drawback is the stiff shifting mechanism).

Edit: I forgot to mention that I'm also a bit leery about putting a PC Super Angulon (600 gms weight) on to the R4 with its baseplate which apparently is not very well attached to the threaded tripod mount recess.  Of course, the R8 has a strong tripod mount, but it's also an extra 270 gms.

Sorry, no pic, but I too have an R4 that I picked up after gettimg the M3.

I wish I’d had the R4 all those years I fought with my Canon AE1with its stupid auto apeture, and relatively inaccessible full manual mode. The R4 is a lovely slr to hold and use. It’s exposure modes cover all the bases, if ever I’m in too much of a hurry for full on manual. It’s a good companion to my M3. And both fit nicely in my small Billingham camera bag.
