6bit Posted June 1, 2018 Share #1 Posted June 1, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) I received my first ever half case today. The Arte di Mano Aventino Half Case with Battery Door and my first Thumbs Up. I have to say that both the case and Thumbs Up have improved the user experience of the M10 beyond what I thought possible. I really didn't think the half case was going to work out for me but I was wrong. I now consider both of the above essential accessories for myself. If anyone is on the fence, jump, don't crawl off of it.

Abram Posted June 2, 2018 Share #3 Posted June 2, 2018 I keep encountering glowing reviews of the cases, but I just can't bring myself to buy one. I do use and like the thumb grip on my M10 but I guess I'm not bothered by scratches and wear on my cameras. I would consider one if I could see one in person and gauge how it felt in my hand, but otherwise I just don't know if I would personally find it to be an ergonomic improvement or not. I totally respect the craftsmanship though! They do look rather nice.
6bit Posted June 3, 2018 Author Share #4 Posted June 3, 2018 (edited) I keep encountering glowing reviews of the cases, but I just can't bring myself to buy one. I totally respect the craftsmanship though! They do look rather nice. I felt the same way as you. Would it really make a difference in my hands? My biggest hurdle was being put off by the looks of any half case on my Leica. After I warmed up to the looks a little I ordered one with my Silver M10. I do care a bit about scratching up my body. I like keeping my gear in like new condition. I don't freak out over wear when it happens but I don't want to just be careless either. I noticed the grip in my hand to be way better. I have never thought my M10 lacked anything in the ergonomics department but I was wrong. That case and the Thumbs Up have changed my entire outlook on holding that camera. It feels so much better. Access to the battery compartment for the SD card was also a big plus. I don't have battery issues but I do like accessing my SD much faster than before. I would suggest going by a dealer that may have a similar style case and check it out. I don't think you would be disappointed. Abram Posted June 3, 2018 Share #5 Posted June 3, 2018 I did try the Leica case and immediately returned it, I didn't like the feeling of it one bit, felt way too thick and chunky to me. I've got a little scratch on the bottom plate and I'm starting to get some strap lug wear but overall it's in solid condition. I'll keep an eye out for a black one as that would be what I'd buy if I did get one. I don't abuse my gear either but it does get used to be sure!
4pipes Posted June 5, 2018 Share #6 Posted June 5, 2018 (edited) If you use a Thumbie, you can have a great thumb hold and free the socket for a flash or viewfinder. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Thumbie-grip-for-Leica-M10-and-M240/292572587843?hash=item441eaf6743:g:7~4AAOxy3yNTfGz0 Edited June 5, 2018 by 4pipes
JohnnySeven Posted June 5, 2018 Share #7 Posted June 5, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have a Luigi half case that i bought for my M8. I still use it on my M9 if im going to be somewhere where the camera may get banged around. Its a great accessory, the only drawback is that it does slightly increase the size of the camera and changing batteries and cards involves removing the camera from the case. They look great too. thedwp Posted June 5, 2018 Share #8 Posted June 5, 2018 I've been using the Leica handgrip and it really does change how the camera feels...not like it's going to slip out of my hands. But I am getting a little tired of having to unscrew it every time I change a battery or card. I've thought about one of the thumb grips but I also have a Visoflex. I don't use it as much as when I first bought it, but it's useless if I have a thumb-grip attached. So I have been considering a half case with the bottom door. I've never had one and I'm not sure I'd like how it looks. I like seeing and feeling the design. Same with my iPhone X. I never use cases. But I may give one a try. Sounds like it would take the place of the handgrip and I could still keep the hot shoe free if I need to whip out the Visoflex.

For a thumb grip look at the “Thumbie” as it doesn’t go in the hot shoe.
