Unique to racing on an oval, the practice of putting a smaller diameter tire on the inside wheels compared to the outboard wheels is called "stagger."

 

This technician is measuring the circumference of the left-sided tire to assure it is the correct size to "stagger" with a slightly larger tire on the right side of the car.

Indiana Oxygen supplies several gases for racing, including nitrogen, which is held under high pressure in these huge bottles.

 

Racing tires are filled with nitrogen, rather than air or pure oxygen, as it offers more consistent pressure as the temperature fluctuates inside the tire.
