Popular Post Keith_W Posted May 25, 2018 Popular Post Share #1 Posted May 25, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) Yesterday, one of my dearest friends passed away peacefully after fighting a 3 year battle with cancer. I visited him the day before his passing, and he looked awful - his skin was sunken, all his muscles had wasted away, and his stomach was bloated. Even when sleeping, his eyes were half open and he could barely talk, only nod and smile. This was the last picture I took of him, only five weeks ago. He looked good! As you can see, he is a hardcore audiophile. This is a portrait of him with his favourite hobby, in a listening room where he has hosted many of us many times. RIP my friend. We will all miss you. Keith_W Posted May 25, 2018 Author Share #5 Posted May 25, 2018 Thank you all. Reini incidentally I happened to be in Vienna when I learnt through the grapevine that his chemo was no longer working and they were going to change him to something else. Well, that one was withdrawn about 8 weeks ago. All of us organized a dinner for him five weeks ago. We went to his favourite Vietnamese restaurant and then we went back to his home for an evening of music and laughs. That was when that photo was taken. I then had to go away for work, and when I came back he was already in palliative care and he looked awful. I brought my camera with me but I left it in the car, I could not bear to take a picture of him when he looked like that. Funeral tomorrow. Camera will be at home. Sometimes, I just don't feel like taking pictures.

Keith_W Posted May 26, 2018 Author Share #8 Posted May 26, 2018 Yes Allan. He has some kind of valve amp contraption that he built himself. Rather ugly but effective.

toyfel Posted July 4, 2018 Share #15 Posted July 4, 2018 It's a beautiful portrait, without knowing him I get the strong impression that he was a wonderful person and a very good friend. So sad to learn the story behind the picture.
abrewer Posted July 5, 2018 Share #16 Posted July 5, 2018 There's a special place in heaven for tube-rollers . . . right next to God's La-Z-Boy and acoustic guitar.
