My one (not for sale) is 567.044 : though a s/n assigned in 1941, it was surely assembled and shipped after WWII : it is coated and with international f/stop scale, to f 32.

Records show 567044 shipped  7/24/1948 to Italy.  I have 567047 and 567048 which were shipped  12/21/1950 and  02/15/1951 to New York and London respectively.  Both are f/32. the switch from f/36 to f/32 occurred arround 567006 to 008.  The first 6 to 8 of this lot were prewar, I have 567009 and is 1948, postwar, f/32. This lot 567001-050 is consistent and all Telyts, the prior lot 540501-550, is a more contentious lot with the possibility of some other lenses mixed in, i.e., a mixed lot.  I have 540522 and 540536 which was shipped to Berlin on 6/13/1941.

My studies show perhaps a few more in total made, 689, than most other historians that show 679,  It is hard to know the very last lens made, but is near 1097261. If anyone has seen a higher serial, please advise.  I calculate that of all these lenses, only 187, plus or minus a few, are prewar.  So a prewar Telyt 400, is not common. Other features changed besides the f/36 aperature. Mount lock screw, front rim slots for a hood having locating pins, GMBH on later hoods, early lens are Nr. serial, later are No. , coating is reported as factory continuious from October 1941. Certainly, some lenses were upgraded with coating after the first time they were shipped without it.

A very interesting lens.

My lens, # 1097184, appears to be a very late production lens with some interesting characteristics

Nr., not No. before the serial number, minimum aperture f32, GmbH on both the barrel and hood, yet it does not appear to be coated.

Whoops, the No. serial was the early engraving, all the late ones after 82404x were the Nr.

I have 1097174 shipped 1/22/55 to Carveth in Canada, and 1097195 shipped 4/22/55 to London.

It would be strange for your lens to not be coated.

I have 11 more 1097xxx Telyt 400's, most were shipped to New York, but also Frankfort, Darmstadt, Wiesbaden and one to Panama(1097104).

It is odd that my lens appears to be uncoated, but I can't see any color cast to the glass

I would expect to see coating with light blue coloration, or purplish blue

I wonder if, being it the last batch of the Telyt 40 v1, and knowing it would have been the last, they have decided to use on the assembly line some parts they have had available at factory for years and years… this wouldn't be so strange for a very special lens made in the middle of a very special timeframe (war).
