APA_Leica Posted May 17, 2018 Share #1 Posted May 17, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) This is a remarkable story and says so much about Leica as a company: https://petapixel.com/2018/05/16/how-a-lost-3500-leica-lens-traveled-the-world-to-get-home/ May you find your lost lens, too, Paul

silverchrome Posted May 17, 2018 Share #2 Posted May 17, 2018 True, but I think it says more about the person who found it.
pgk Posted May 17, 2018 Share #3 Posted May 17, 2018 True, but I think it says more about the person who found it. I'm not so sure. I think that many people are happier to reunite an item with its original owner especially when it is something which the owner may value and not merely for its monetary value. Some years ago whilst diving I found a man's gold wedding ring. I duly reported this to the police (nobody had reported losing one) and even had an article published in the local paper, but couldn't find the owner. I still have it and from where I found it I am sure it was lost not deliberately thrown away (which happens). I'd still prefer to reunite it with its owner than sell it or anything else because I'm sure that a wedding ring will have greater worth the the owner than its gold content. I very much doubt that I am alone in my attitude - I would like to think that its the same attitude of a lot of people.
Hello Posted May 17, 2018 Share #4 Posted May 17, 2018 Maybe it's just good all around and nothing needs to be better than the other or say more about any party involved. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Regardless. Nice to see something good in this world.
derleicaman Posted May 17, 2018 Share #5 Posted May 17, 2018 It was quite a story with a happy ending. Leica maintains a list of lost/stolen Leicas in a database. I wonder if the owner had reported his lost lens to Leica, it would have been returned quicker?

Peter Kilmister Posted May 17, 2018 Share #8 Posted May 17, 2018 To me the wonderful aspect of this story is renewing my belief in humanity. The very kind Norwegian person's intervention, the shop in California with its diligent staff, as well as Leica and its respected network. Trust is restored. Jeff S Posted May 18, 2018 Share #13 Posted May 18, 2018 It's a great story. Well done to all involved. Amazing any rain didn't affect it. ... Not much rain (except a year’s worth in December 2016!)... http://ucanr.edu/sites/wolfskill2/Weather___Chilling___Harvest_Prediction/?weather=station&station=233 .... but, yes, still a testament to build tolerances (and presumed help from caps and maybe filter).
