I will be in Frankfurt in early June & will make the short trip to Wetzlar for the Leica factory tour whilst I'm there. My question is this : if I dropped my M9M in on arrival, is it likely that they would map out an annoying dead pixel whilst I'm there? Silly as it may sound, if they could do it, it would be quicker & more convenient than shipping my M9M off to Shanghai, which is what we Hong Konger's have to do now for any small issues.

Thank you. I have already made an appointment for the factory visit. I will email them about the Monochrom. This idea with fixing the dead pixel cropped up recently and I thought I'd run it past you guys first.

It can be done. I know because I have done it. But of course, as Jaap wrote, you can't just turn up and ask. You need to talk to them and make an appointment. Same goes for the factory visit.

It can! And today I received a polite reply from none other than Mr Kaufmann making an appointment for me with a technician before my tour. Thank you, Leica!

...You were absolutely right about that, jaapv, I stand corrected :)

Whilst we did the factory tour, which is free & very friendly & thorough, my monochrom's dead pixel was mapped out, sensor cleaned, firmware updated & mechanics checked & adjusted for Euro100.00-. Thank you, Michel from Customer Service! I'm pleased it was done.

You get a sense of real precision, efficiency & order there with a focus on bubbling creativity. It's a very inspiring environment with stunning architecture. After the tour we went to the Cine Leitz Hotel across from the main factory building for lunch. It was a substantial, buffet in comfortable, un-stuffy surroundings with dessert for two people, a large bottle of mineral water & coffee plus great service for a total of almost Euro27.00-, which I think was very reasonable.

Incidentally, whilst sitting outdoors beside the fountain, we spotted Stephan Daniel walk out of the main entrance towards his car, camera bag across his shoulder & looking furtively left & right. He wasn't stopping for anyone. I wondered whether he might have been carrying some new product for testing but then remembered that Germany vs. South Korea football match was on later that afternoon :p

It's a great day out from Frankfurt, for anyone who's interested.
