Banci Posted May 2, 2018 Share #1 Posted May 2, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi everyone. I have to say it; the Q's Cap really sucks. I wanted to know if you have any suggestions about a Genuine Leica or Third Part Replacement. Since I want to keep the Hood always on a regular 49mm Cap is not enough. Thanks everyone
Advertisement Posted May 2, 2018 Posted May 2, 2018 Hi Banci, Take a look here Leica Q Cap Replacement. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
SonomaBear Posted May 2, 2018 Share #2 Posted May 2, 2018 This is ALWAYS on my Q (in my pocket while I shoot). Ugly? Yes! Functional? Yes! Expensive? lmao It protects better than a hard cap because it is padded. It fits into my back pocket instantly. If I lose it, so what! I do have a spare one though... https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0000AC924/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

rpittal Posted May 2, 2018 Share #4 Posted May 2, 2018 I use T. Overgaard's replacement hood and nice snap cap on my Q. http://www.overgaard.dk/Thorsten-von-Overgaard-Gallery-Store-Hardware-for-Photography-LeicaQ-Typ116-Ventilated-Lens-Shade.html
Orguy Posted May 3, 2018 Share #5 Posted May 3, 2018 This problem is a great big nothingburger. I too fretted over it when I first got this much loved camera. Then when the felt started to come out of it, I removed most of it and put in a few layers of tape in its place to build up the ID so the cap fits snugly on the lens/lens shade and stays on. Not a big deal. It works and I get to keep the nice Leica cap. It is only a problem if you look inside the cap when it is off and let it bother you.

Stopped using it after 1 day.
bullmoon Posted May 3, 2018 Share #9 Posted May 3, 2018 Same here - and I stuffed a Schneider (B+W) 65mm push on cap into the bottom of it to add some support. - https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/475568-REG/B_W_65069707_300_65mm_Push_On_Lens.html?ap=y&c3api=1876%2C193873466839%2C%2C&gclid=Cj0KCQjw5qrXBRC3ARIsAJq3bwoBcJOcV1aWaC4Q_pjdhBf6pFMX7e7Psg0Hc7CK3lhLGammmVCu9-IaAgljEALw_wcB This is ALWAYS on my Q (in my pocket while I shoot). prk60091 Posted May 4, 2018 Share #14 Posted May 4, 2018 (edited) Would I be right in assuming a standard 49mm lens cap fits inside that hood on the filter thread? i do not know.. i use the optech foam thing mentioned above- i think i bought mine at b&h online (i try not to give billionaires more money when i can-- and try to support photo stores--local first then others second)--- my local leica store does not carry 'small' stuff like this. it is a bit of a stretch when i use the ventilated but i make it work... at less than 10usd i can buy a bunch if needed Edited May 4, 2018 by prk60091
Banci Posted May 4, 2018 Author Share #15 Posted May 4, 2018 Not when u need to use a polarizer. Just take off the hood or buy a normal vented hood for 5 bucks.
