LeicaDreamer Posted May 2, 2018 Share #1 Posted May 2, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi everybody! I need your long experience to get some advices about a lens change I would like to do... I have an Elmarit 28mm and a Summicron 50... according to the philosophy that the best lens you have is the one you have on your camera, in the last 18 months I used for 95% of my time the 28mm...it's the best solution for me. I really love this focal length! I'm happy with the Elmarit (good compromise between resolution and weight), but often I have to take picture inside restaurant and events and the f2,8 it's too high for me...need more light lens and faster speed...So I was thinking to sell the Elmarit and the Summicron 50 for buying a 28 Summilux f1,4. I'm not scared about the more weight, (come from Canon experience....) but would like to know if do you think will give me the characteristic I missed till now... Do you think make sense invest almost 6T€ in that lens?! I was already considering the possibility to buy a Q Camera for his high luminosity (28mm f1,7) but I like so much to take picture with the M System that would like to remain on this system.... Thanks in advance for sharing your experience with me and sorry for my "Italian-English"...I hope was enough correct to let you understand! Best regards and have a nice day Gino
Advertisement Posted May 2, 2018 Posted May 2, 2018 Hi LeicaDreamer, Take a look here Leica 28mm: move from Elmarit to Summilux.... I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Fedro Posted May 2, 2018 Share #2 Posted May 2, 2018 I have had all 4 current 28s at some point (plus an R Elmarit) and my favorite is the 28 Lux I think you may still want to have a 50 or 75 to go with it, but it is a fabulous lens also on its own if you like to get close The Elmarit is also very good, but yes, more limiting
mmradman Posted May 2, 2018 Share #3 Posted May 2, 2018 If 95% of your shooting is with 28mm and you do lot of shooting indoors like restaurants you cant go wrong with Summilux 28mm. You need to be aware that there is some RF window blockage with this lens. When I shoot outdoors with moderate F stop, like f5.6-8, it is non-critical focusing situation, I focus with RF and frame with external optical viewfinder, my favourite is latest Leica 21mm which has second set of frame lines for M8 which correspond to 28mm FL; 21 X 1.33 = 28. When shooting indoors with maximum aperture where focus is critical I need to rely on my memory and guess what is in the blocked bottom quarter of the RF window. MarkP Posted May 2, 2018 Share #4 Posted May 2, 2018 ...or a 2.0/28 Summicron. Minimal rangefinder window blockage and relatively compact. Half-way between the other two for speed, weight and size, and price.
