Marac Posted May 1, 2018 Share #1 Posted May 1, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) Some of you may remember my having my broken M8 converted to Infrared after the sensor developed coating issues. Yes an M8 with coating issues, impossible, but true, anyway, I sent it to Advanced Camera Services in UK and had it converted to Infrared. BRILLIANT! Well, now I have sold all my M stuff, including the converted M8, and I now use a CL as my main camera, so I have decided to buy a Leica T and have it converted to Infrared. I am very excited at the prospect of having a nice small IR body to work alongside my CL for Landscapes and street photography. Street in IR is stunning If anyone is interested I will keep the thread updated. The conversion will take around 3-4 weeks from when i send it off next week. Thanks.

dkCambridgeshire Posted May 1, 2018 Share #3 Posted May 1, 2018 What type of IR transmitting filter is being fitted and which company is doing the conversion? dunk
Marac Posted May 2, 2018 Author Share #4 Posted May 2, 2018 Advanced Camera Services will be doing the conversion, they did my M8, the service is superb! http://advancedcameraservices.co.uk/ Here is a list of the filters they offer. 590nm Golden glow, allows orange and red visible light and IR light on to the sensor665nm – This allows red visible light and IR light on to the sensor720nm – False Colour, allows only IR light on to the sensor780mn – False Colour, though muted. IR Only830nm – Monochrome Only, allows only IR light on the sensor.Quartz – Full spectrum I think I might try the 830nm this time. My M8 was converted using 720nm and was pretty good. I have just bought a used T from eBay and it should arrive tomorrow, then I will send it to ACS and the turnaround time is about 3 weeks.

Marac Posted May 23, 2018 Author Share #8 Posted May 23, 2018 The camera has now arrived with ACS and I have spoken with Neil, he says the Leica T will be excellent for IR and the procedure is not as tough as the M8 (poor bloke). I hope to go and collect it around my birthday trip early June, the price is very reasonable. I've gone for the 780 conversion which is mainly B&W.
helged Posted May 24, 2018 Share #9 Posted May 24, 2018 (edited) Interesting! Don't be shy to provide some ir-examples... . It would be good to know the type of ir-filter being used - and which T(L)-lens working well. I understand the the 35mm Lux-T is fine, what about the other L-primes and L-zooms? I will certainly be posting images right here when I get it back (hopefully June 6th) I'm still deciding what filter to go with but it will be either 780 or 830 the lenses I own are 18-56, 11-23, 23, 35, 55-135. so I will be testing them all.
Marac Posted June 4, 2018 Author Share #11 Posted June 4, 2018 The camera is finished. I had it done to 830nm, couldn't help myself. I am driving up to collect it from ACS near Norwich on Wednesday, so, knowing myself, I should have a few to post on Thursday. I never sent any lenses in with the camera but Neil has told me he will need an hour with a lens to set the camera up properly. They do request you send a lens in with the body but Im using my lenses with the CL
Marac Posted June 7, 2018 Author Share #12 Posted June 7, 2018 So here it is all done. I collected the camera and we headed to Great Yarmouth for a relaxing time (birthday today, 56), so the shots are basically snaps. The AF works fine, no hot spots on 11-23 or 18-56 or 23 or 35 lux. delighted with the quality and service from ACS. £250 +VAT, with a turn around time of approx 2 weeks. Welcome, dear visitor! dkCambridgeshire Posted December 4, 2020 Share #16 Posted December 4, 2020 I'm considering a 'full spectrum' conversion for my Leica T ... camera to be used with a UV transmitting filter (already acquired) on the lens which blocks all other wavelengths ... already have suitable UV transmitting lenses e.g. 35mm f2.4 Flektogon ... Already have suitable UV transmitting flashgun but will be more practical to use a continuous UV light source thus enabling use of the Viso Type 020. Camera can then be used for lichen UV photography. Need to research a suitable portable continuous UV light and power supply. BW dunk

That should not be a problem as the AF works from sensor data. The same for focusing manual lenses.
