FlyingBear Posted April 28, 2018 Share #1 Posted April 28, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) Greetings, Yesterday. I received my first Leica in 54 years of photography. A long-held wish come true. I'm beginning to learn and appreciate the camera. It's a small thing, but I'm having trouble understanding the "remaining frames" count on the INFO display. Using a 16GB card formatted in the camera, I have 14.5GB free before taking any images. In DNG, or DNG+JPG mode, the remaining images number is 0372. That implies 40MB per image, which could be the case for DNG+JPG (large), but it's closer to 28MB for DNG only. Selecting JPG only, the remaining images number is 7417, regardless of the JPG size selected. That implies a 2MB per image file size, likely correct for small JPGs, but not for the othere two sizes. Am I missing something, or is it just a firmware bug? I'd expect approximately 530 DNGs per 16GB card. Thanks for any feedback. Regards, Alex. Fgcm Posted April 29, 2018 Share #2 Posted April 29, 2018 Welcome to the forum FlyingBear. I would not call it a "bug". Since the actual size of both Jpeg and compressed DNG files is unpredictable, the firmware gives the minimum remaining images number. The actual available space of any SD card as you read it on the camera display is never exactly the same as it's nominal size. If you search in the forum you will find some very comprehensive posts explaining why this happens. Enjoy your camera Ciao Franco
TomB_tx Posted April 29, 2018 Share #3 Posted April 29, 2018 Historically Leica is only concerned about remaining images when the count reaches 36.
