Thanks Klaus, I'm not one for keeping cameras and lenses I don't use enough to justify having them and I'm not sentimental about cameras or lenses, the image is all!.  I really like the 28mm summicron-m and 28mm or equivalent is my most used focal length with 3:2 (35mm and 6x9 formats).  I did have three 28mm lenses that I use with my MP; 28mm f3.5 color-skopar (my backpacking lens), 28mm summaron-m and 28mm summicron asph v1.

Over the past 3-4 years, I've used the summaron-m far more that the color-skopar,  I sold the color-skopar earlier this year, despite the fact that I think it is a brilliant lens.  I tend to shoot the summaron-m mainly at f8  and with 100iso film in average light outdoors, I'm getting around 1/60th sec shutter speed which is not a problem for me..  if I need a wider aperture and/or a faster shutter speed I have the 28mm summicron asph in reserve.

For my preference for the 28mm focal length, I find the 28mm summicron and 28mm summron-m a versatile pair.    I'm not averse to using a tripod, but the (summaron-m) image I uploaded  is hand-held.

My personal opinion is that if you can afford to have the summaron-m as a second 28mm for it's individual character, then buy it!

Thank you Steve, these are quite useful informations. The interesting part is that you have a faster back-up lens if the need should arise which I didn't and so lost interest in the Summaron-M because it turned out to be a " bright daylight" only lens.

One last question: Do you use a filter for the Su-M ? Say an orange 22 ? Puts your speed down  to 1/15 in your example...

Klaus, I use a yellow filter occasionally on the summaron-m if there is cloud or sea detail that I want to enhance slightly. It depends  also on which film I have in the camera.

I don't find that, possibly because I tend to use 400 film. I will sometimes use a yellow 8 filter. As it is my favourite focal length I have often thought that I "need" a faster 28mm but tbh the 5,6 has never been a limitation so far. I think I've posted these before, both shot on the MP with 28mm Summaron M, yellow filter and Ilford Pan400.

Very nice - which Summilux 50mm do you use ?

Thank you. The Summilux is an ASPH version. Purchased used along with the M6 about a year ago so I don't know much more than that. This is my first rangefinder camera and still in learning mode when it comes to Leica's.
