TL Battery Drain in Standby Mode

Hello - I'm new here & searched the forum, hope someone may be able to weigh in.

I purchased a used TL in like new condition from a seller in Europe (I'm in Canada) with either a bad battery or something amiss internally and I'm trying to diagnose the problem before I pack it off for service.

I haven't used the camera all that much so I didn't catch it at first that there was something wrong but was frustrated that every time I grabbed the camera from my bag the battery needed charging. It's a great camera, I like the TL "experience", the images are stellar with the 23/2. (I also have an M6 with a 35/2 I bought around 20 years ago but it has not seen much service over the years.)

In standby with the switch off, the battery lasts approximately 4 hours. The battery indicator on the LCD drops 1 bar per hour, almost like clockwork. I have repeated this experiment a number of times, no lens or visoflex attached.

I don't have a second battery to test (I do, but my colleague who picked it up for me in the US forgot it was in his bag and is now in Europe for the month...long story...) but putting a multimeter on a fully charged battery I am measuring 8.3 V and approximately 7V on a "dead" battery.

The other thing is that after 4 hours the camera reverts to factory defaults, suggesting that the internal battery (or capacitor or whatever it is) is being fully discharged as well.

A 985 mAh battery being drained in 4 hours in standby means, by my rudimentary math, the camera is drawing approximately 240 mA in standby, which is a ridiculous amount when the camera is doing nothing.

Any ideas or anyone experience this with a T or TL ?

Thanks

William
