I have one of the earliest M4's around 1175047, so the 47th production M4. It was bought from Lizars, the Leica dealer in Aberdeen Scotland on the 1st of July 1967. My father took me there with the intention of buying an M3 body but when he saw the newly released demo M4, he persuaded the dealer to sell it to him, as a very old and loyal, third generation customer. It disappeared for a long time after my parents moved house in 1971, where I assumed it had been stolen but many years later, it turned out that my uncle had the camera, believing it to be my father's not mine and was delighted to return it to me.
