jaapv Posted April 24, 2018 Share #10 Posted April 24, 2018 That does not look like corrosion, more like some kind of damage. Corrosion is an M9 and derivatives problem, not an M240 one. The camera needs to be sent in, I am curious what Leica's diagnosis will be.
tjh1023 Posted April 24, 2018 Author Share #11 Posted April 24, 2018 Me also. It hasn’t been used hard or abused.
keithlaban.co.uk Posted April 24, 2018 Share #12 Posted April 24, 2018 Doesn't look like anything I had on my M9.
Flu Posted April 24, 2018 Share #13 Posted April 24, 2018 Does not look like corrosion to me either. Looks as if someone dropped a sharp object directly onto sensor and the top cover scratched or even cracked. Have you had anybody service the camera lately? jaeger Posted April 24, 2018 Share #14 Posted April 24, 2018 Did you use sensor cleaning solutions? If you do, please smell it to see if it's alcohol. The cleanser I have smells like pure alcohol but at premium price and I've put it aside. I am not sure it has any correlation to you problem but I ain't taking chances. Good luck. Chubkins Posted April 24, 2018 Share #15 Posted April 24, 2018 Besides that mark, that sensor looks to have a whole host of issues. Weird.
Jean-Michel Posted April 24, 2018 Share #16 Posted April 24, 2018 Perhaps a silly question, but have you cleaned the sensor, it looks somewhat dirty? Could the spot be some gunk on it?
tjh1023 Posted April 24, 2018 Author Share #17 Posted April 24, 2018 (edited) Me also. It hasn’t been used hard or abused. I haven’t cleaned it I did the dust detection and it showed a lot of dust. I looked at the sensor and saw the spot the looked at a photo, and live view also and it showed. I hope it’s just some crud of some sort that can be cleaned. This is my first real Leica, and every time I pick up this M I get goosebumps. I absolutely love it. Edited April 24, 2018 by tjh1023
wda Posted April 24, 2018 Share #18 Posted April 24, 2018 (edited) Get it to Leica dealer as soon as possible. And please report the findings. Do you know any of its previous life story? Edited April 24, 2018 by wda

This is my first real Leica, and every time I pick up this M I get goosebumps. I absolutely love it. Hi again, It may very well just gunk on the sensor. If you are close to your Leica dealer take the camera there and see if they can take care of it. If the matter is sticky, it may be better to let someone familiar with cleaning sensors to do that, but it does not have to be a Leica specialist, any competent camera technician can do this quite easily Your camera will occasionally accumulate dust on the sensor. It is a relatively easy task to get rid of it. Search this site, or google, for advice on cleaning camera sensors. I personally use the Visibledust Arctic Butterfly brush, their lighted sensor loupe, and mostly simply a bulb blower. Always just start with the bulb blower, it is usually sufficient. tjh1023 Posted April 24, 2018 Author Share #20 Posted April 24, 2018 From what the previous owner told me. It wasn’t purchased new, with a newer lieca 35 and 50. He didn’t use it a lot I mostly sat on the shelf he said he didn’t take more than 50 photos with it, and that I wouldn’t find one that was used but new. When I opened the box and unpacked it it was like I bought a new camera. Plastic protection on most parts and most still in original packaging other then the charger. I still looks like new.
