I am a bit perplexed about the ‘numerous wishes for general improvements’ mainly featuring ‘eco’ mode and ‘joystick deactivation’ which if my memory serves me correct have never featured here on the forum ...... locking the focus point centrally, yes, but not losing the joystick functions completely. We will see what appears but I suspect I will be underwhelmed by the changes .......

If they have fixed all the file numbering issues I will eat my underpants publicly on YouTube.

yes, it's good news when it actually arrives.  Approximations are "sometime in spring" I thought April 23 meant April 23.

You from Chicago? It is such a cliche, especially outside USA how Americans are seen as overbearingly custom service demanding.  With SL platform, as humble European I think, Leica has exceeded itself already.

I really didn't notice that 23 April was and gone yesterday, firmware will be with us soon, it is primarily updated to support new 16-35mm zoom lens.  Current FW 3.1 is supporting Noctilux 75mm and new AF Summicron primes.  Previous FW 3.0 is pretty good also, i am still on 3.0.

Overbearing?  You better look up the word Hypocrite, then look in the mirror!

Leica is not religion but camera brand."      ....."please use your privileged position convey to Leica that’s users would appreciate choice to disable LNER, I don’t think it is much to ask and it would raise esteem of the company as being receptive to Customer needs and wishes"   ...."Diplomacy works both ways, rather than telling us what you think is good for us please convey to your masters that plebs would appreciate LNER being made user option rather than mandated".....

"Overbearing" is you whining about LENSR !

Instead of criticizing me and Americans, maybe you should worry about your own annoying comments. I need 3.2 for my new 16-35, some people use their Leica equipment to professionally, not just to shoot their cats. As you stated about yourself, " I am just an amateur ". So please don't  insult me and worry about request or comments that you don't understand.

LNER doesn’t need disabling .... it needs an optional or alternative method that avoids standing around waiting for very little to happen.

Leica will NEVER disable it as it would result in poor quality images which is an anathema in Wetzlar.

Implementing a system similar to that on the HB X1D would do just fine.

LENR has nothing to do with this thread or FW 3.2 (would be nice if sorted)  it has been long annoyance on all Leica digital platforms from the very beginning.

As you are professional why don't you use your clout and complain to Leica direct. If you have 16-35mm in your hands already you have my admiration.

Always in spring I notice the following problem:

Red hues are fantastic, but blue hues are rather disappointing. (Very clear with blue pansies or other blue blossoms).

Often the blues are shifted to violet or even slightly pinkish.

Did others also notice that ?

Could this be caused by the software alone, and acccordingly fixed with a new release ? Or is this rather a problem of the current sensor and can only be fixed with new hardware ?

An improvement in this could be an important point for an upgrade to a SL (II), at least for me.

It is very obvious when I look through the internal monitor (finder).

First taking a picture and then comparing the view with the result of the shot. The blues are simply disappointing - in reality the pansies have a very interesting (complex) mixture of different hues, but in the shot the blues are simply dull (not enough different hues and too reddish compared to reality.).

But I see this in all current digital images of natural blues (many brands of cameras) - it's less obvious with human-made stuff where the colors are typically more uniform.

You can also notice it in metallic colored cars for example with "midnight blue, or alaska blue"  (my car is of hat color and so I notice it in many situations).

Purples and blues are a problem with the color spaces (sRGB for web display, especially), which simply don't contain certain colors that I see in my garden.  Adobe's extended color spaces do better, but require that you use a monitor with extended colors and the calibration tools to control them.  It's a huge subject, that I have not been very brave about exploring.

Use big color spaces, 16 bit color managed workflow, print your results with best papers and inks, and display under optimal lighting conditions. It’s a complete chain from capture to print display...no short cuts if you want to make best use of your high end gear.

I'm not a huge fan of the blues/purples either.... I work in a fully colour managed environment on wide gamut monitors and profiles for everything.

which isn't the point......

95% of what I do is sold/shared/used on devices that are *normal*. I'm not telling a client it's because their monitor isn't wide gamut. I adjust things to look good. I wish Leica had better colour out of the box. No, it's not a big deal. But it's a pain when you also have systems where colour adjustments (I'm thinking Fuji, Hasselblad and Olympus) need little or no work. Time is money.

I agree. Having the whole chain in place really makes things run smoothly and saves time.

I'm working in a Adobe 1998 colour space for my prints on my Eizo monitor but left my laptop on P3 (Apple = "Colour LCD", SL = "ECI RGBv2") because of video editing. You need to setup your app to work in a particular colour space ( a big one as suggested by Gordon and Jeff) and set the colour space output (such as sRGB generically for web and clients or a specific print profile of your Printer's machine) for your finished files.

Some apps such as Iridient Dev (a bit of a pain to use) works the files in LAB colour space for your manipulation of exposure and colours before you output in your preferred colour space and format.

I will be moving to Display P3 because I've beginning to do professional video work alongside stills. It makes sense to combine both. On your SL set your JPG settings>Colour Space> Adobe 1998 or ECI RGB v2 which affects video colours. I've not fully committed so I'm not sure if there are any issues. I very much doubt it as my clients no longer have the skilled personnel to tell the difference, it's more for my own sanity. That can be a problem when clients cannot push on quality standards, I get complacent  :p

Display P3 does have less blues but captures the yellows completely compared to Adobe 1998. HDR video will need P3 though.

I'm by no means an expert, so if there are any mistakes, do feel free to correct my points.  :)
