35-70mm f4 has te worst flare between 50-60mm. This is due to the extension of the lens front element that the built-in hood becomes too shallow. Over 70mm and below 50mm are excellent.

It seems impossible to add any lens hood extension without abandon the Leica built-in hood. The built-in hood does not have the thread to add screw-in hood. It also does not allow screw-in lens hood to the front lens element (fiilter thread).

I taped a black paper tube around the existing hood as the hood extension, there is serious vignet if it is longer than 1CM. So I conclude it must have a horn shape. A cylindrical tube would not help much.

Any known solution?

I called Leica service department for technical support on this matter.

The answer is there is no no simple solution to add the extended hood except DIY.

I did try a DIY lens hood, I used a 77mm rubber lens hood, and used a double size thick tape to tape out of the built-in hood.

It didn't improve much. If the light is right on the edge of the view, it will not be blocked by the extended hood.

I think Leica's built-in hood is already optimized.
