If I'm using the Leica M adapter L, and my 35mm M pres asph summicron v4 is not 6 bit coded would I gain anything significant by getting it coded?

Am just planning to rent the body to try it out sometime soon, but my v4 is on the bench in the shop now and I'm wondering if I should just get it coded.  Is is just to set the lens profiles automatically?

1. Convenience

2. Yes.

When you use an uncoded lens you can choose the profile from the menu list. If the specific lens isn't there (some older lenses) just choose the nearest equivalent. Files in LR will be automatically corrected for vignetting, distortion etc.

Even if you ignore all that you can still apply corrections in LR from the drop down Profile menu in 'Lens Corrections' in the develop module buy choosing the relevant Leica lens.
