James - Yes, I've shot him, the original naked cowgirl, but I've skipped most of the more recent naked cowgirls and I've skipped the naked great grandmother cowgirl, but for you amusement here are some Times Square photos related to your comment. As Remy McSwain as played by Dennis Quaid in the 1987 movie, The Big Easy says about New Orleans, "...it's always a big party here...." Welcome, dear visitor! james.liam Posted April 12, 2018 Share #12 Posted April 12, 2018 (edited) That image is emblematic of New York under the reign of Mayor "Bill" dumBlazio. Graffiti again scrawled over every open wall. Subways, the Homeless hotels they once were. Petty crimes on the rise, Quality of life declining. Like the bad old 1970's and 80's. stuny Posted April 12, 2018 Author Share #13 Posted April 12, 2018 Rob - Thank you. James - Thank you. Actually, regardless of mayor, I doubt it will get back to even remotely as bad as in the '70s and '80s (Remember Bryant Park? It was a scary, 24/7 drug store, but look at it now), partly because of three things that happened in 1973: two of which definitely changed the landscape, and one of which might have. In that year lead was removed from interior paints and gasoline. Very fine studies show that infant and toddler exposure to lead (sweet tasting paint chips, and atmospheric lead in these cases) leads to impulse control issues 15 to 20 years later. That matches up to when throughout the US (and Europe, too where they banned lead) the incidence of crime trended down significantly. Rudy Giuliani claimed credit for it, but the trend started well before he took office. The controversial factor, which may or may not have had an impact was Roe v. Wade, reducing the number of unwanted children who grow up unwanted. We should meet sometime. stuart.nordheimer@opco.com.

abrewer Posted April 13, 2018 Share #16 Posted April 13, 2018 The controversial factor, which may or may not have had an impact was Roe v. Wade, reducing the number of unwanted children who grow up unwanted. This theory is detailed in the best-selling book "Freakonomics" of about seven or eight years ago.
