North / Northwest Posted March 29, 2018 Share #1 Posted March 29, 2018 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) White Horse Saloon, restaurant & hotel in Spirit Lake,Idaho. It's the oldest saloon in the state. Actually it predates statehood. A full service old west dive that one would never wish to visit. Just a part of backwoods America. X2 Welcome, dear visitor! North / Northwest Posted March 30, 2018 Author Share #3 Posted March 30, 2018 Stuart, I would imagine the Manhattan saloon is also interesting. The Idaho version has become a biker bar.
Bill W Posted March 31, 2018 Share #4 Posted March 31, 2018 It must be early as there are no "bikes" out front.
North / Northwest Posted April 1, 2018 Author Share #5 Posted April 1, 2018 It must be early as there are no "bikes" out front. It's too early in the year for flies and bikers.
peterbengtson Posted April 3, 2018 Share #6 Posted April 3, 2018 The one in New York is actually named the White Horse Tavern. For many years it was against State Liquor Authority regulations to call a bar in New York a saloon. There was a bar on the west side named O’Neil’s Balloon as the SLA would not let it be named O’Neil’s Saloon. I spent many happy hours in the White Horse Tavern in my younger days. I had no idea the word saloon was not allowed. Interesting how names and terms change over time.
