Which Model Vintage Leica Is This?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'm new to the forum. I just bought a grouping of vintage Leica screw mount cameras. I'm having trouble identifying this one. The serial number says it's a Leica I, but it looks like a II. I'd love to have thoughts on this camera from the members.

This was a common conversion in the early 1930s. The cosmetic condition of this camera seems to be very good. It has the early 1932/33 'toilet seat' housing on top, so called because of the shape around the speed dial.

And originally it ought to be even a non-standard Leica I (the "0" on the flange is revealing) ... very fine item, of great historical value, and really in good cosmetic shape : how is mechanics ? if working good, this is an almost 90 years old camera capable of very good pictures (*) and with a comfortable Handling and operation.

(*) ITS lens of course would be an Elmar... but one could even mount onto a CV Nokton 1,5,  75 years younger than the body and perfectly fitting.

The popularity of this conversion of the Original Model 1A is why, even though many thousands were built, it is a comparative rarity in its original form

No idea of what happened to my first "answer" (see above). I wanted to show the two Leica II converted from Leica I I had in my Fontenelle collection nº 5396 and 15476. Note that the first one has suspension eyelets, the second one none. I also show a photo of what happened later to nº15476 : a gilded fantasy.
