carl_b Posted March 14, 2018 Share #1 Posted March 14, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) I've been able to take some wonderful photos with the extraordinary 24-90mm on the SL ... But the pairing is so heavy that I found it to be giving my aging right-arm a painful elbow and forearm - that wasn't going away readily. X-Vario - still love that camera. But it's limited a bit on the wide end for me. But talk about a great interface and lens!! Moundsview Blvd view SE by Carl B, on Flickr The TL was a great camera for me - but not at sub-zero temps: unable to operate the touch-controls with gloves on. Where I live, about five months of the year aren't suited for the TL or TL2. So when the CL came out, absolutely time to try it. So far have not been disappointed! It has a bit different feel to the photos than the SL, but not worse - just different. And the 11-23mm is truly a superb lens. Having a blast so far. Love shooting Leica cameras (including the D-LUX!)

carl_b Posted March 14, 2018 Author Share #3 Posted March 14, 2018 Thanks very much. Upon drafting and hitting "Post," all indications of the post went "poof!" and searches didn't turn it up. So I thought perhaps the external links weren't allowed or such, but I see them here now (of course). I typically upload my originals to Flickr, then grab and post a link to approx. 1024 X 768 pixel downsized from the original. Is that acceptable for image posts on this board? And are the image sizes OK? I don't want to link to images that are too big or two small.
Bill W Posted March 18, 2018 Share #4 Posted March 18, 2018 They are all very nice. I understand your SL dilemma. I carried mine around Scotland for two weeks. Wish it could go on a diet!!!!!! Not ready to give it up though.
wda Posted March 18, 2018 Share #5 Posted March 18, 2018 (edited) Carl, your brilliantly observed Melissa Listening is simply devine. Thank you. A fine example of Leica photography. Edited March 18, 2018 by wda
wlaidlaw Posted March 20, 2018 Share #6 Posted March 20, 2018 (edited) Totally agree about CL v SL. While on my travels, my back is complaining far less since I started using the CL and left my SL mostly at home. I might have even considered selling my SL but I am keeping it mainly for studio use and for taking with me on classic car rallies. We sometimes do rallies in areas, where we are mostly on dirt or gravel roads. We have a very heavily modified, full roll caged, 1970 Mechatronik Pagoda Mercedes SL, with a later Mercedes 4.3L V8 in it and mounted on 8 ply rating truck tyres, for these non-tarmac or rough road rallies. There is often a very large amount of dust stirred up by the passage of rally cars and before getting the SL camera, using M digitals, I was having to clean my sensor every day. I did a three week rally in the north east Shan State of Myanmar (Burma) and with the excellent dust sealing on the SL, I did not have to clean the sensor once. I wish Leica had put an ultrasonic cleaning sensor in the CL. Wilson Edited March 20, 2018 by wlaidlaw
carl_b Posted March 23, 2018 Author Share #7 Posted March 23, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) My guess is the ultrasonic cleaning mechanicals increase the risk of being ever so slightly out of focus in use. I can't see selling the SL and 24-90mm either. I think it does better in low-light capture of people shots than the CL, in practice. There's something about that pairings photos that I like so much, too, different than the CL and its zooms. The super-wide SL lens will be quite the temptation ... but the 11-23mm on the CL covers "wide" so well for me.
