Quite possible, as APS-C is certainly less demanding than full-frame. However, the corner performance is so good that one might suspect some microlens trickery.

A smaller sensor with lenses designed for that will always be better. Even with M lenses the frames are cropped out of the center of the lens.

Edit. and none of that old tech SLR flappy mirror stuff.

There are so many reasons I would never give up the optical VF of my SLR systems (or M for that matter) I can't even begin to count. I would consider maybe one "Special Ops" dead silent mirrorless electronic VF camera that would use the same system but no way in hell I am going completely all electronic VF, it just does not work for everything and never will.

And yes, I have tried it, not even close to my kind of tool.

Having used the M10 for a year now I love it to bits.

I'd like to see M11 include:

- better dynamic range

- split level in the VF

- aperture data in EXIF

- on/off switch like M240

- simpler Wi-Fi connectivity

- button to recall & lock speed/iso of prior image

- a la carte ordering on day one!

Erm... for the avoidance of doubt - my post was intended as sarcasm - about this "debate" on pixels which seems to flare up like a brush fire on innocent threads across the forum.

On track, such misinterpretations of intent are known as the 'red mist'.  Much as with racers, as the argument circles round and round, the longer the jostling goes on, the more the fog descends. Obviously I haven't got worked up enough yet, I recognized the wit immediately.

...

Caveats: I shoot a Canon 5DS (50MP) with 100-400L for sailing photography. Canon shooter for 25+ years. 50 MP gives me huge room to crop - much cheaper than a 600 or 800 lens. Love the big MP camera. I only shoot a 35mm with my M10 - cropping is done with my feet :-) I don't ever see me getting a 75 or 90 lens for Leica so my views are dominated by my shooting style with M10

It is so easy: 50 MP is good, 100 MP is better.

The good Leica-lenses have no problems with 100 MP. And the result? We can take for example the brilliant APO 2.0/75 and we can crop it easily to 135mm, 200mm or even 300mm? A super compact full frame dream lens like the APO 2.0/75 with the capability to shoot 300mm photos? Who is against this?

Please, Leica, increase the Sensor to 50MP+!

It's funny but when the M8 came out I lamented the added body thickness, and then when the M240 came out I lamented the loss of the frame line preview.  I used to say a preview lever and a thinner body would compel me to upgrade, but when it actually came to fruition I had grown accustomed enough that I no longer felt compelled.  So I'm really at a loss to think of anything that would compel me to upgrade to an M11.  Perhaps in-body stabilization, I don't know.  I'm not losing any sleep dreaming about it.  I don't like feeling dissatisfied with what I have, it takes all the pleasure out of life.

Need to add:

1) Bottom plate (Circa 1960?) should be replaced with a waterproof hinged door for memory and battery

2) USB-micro or USB-C to charge battery in camera (like my smaller Sony RX1) so can charge anywhere during the day (lunch)

can be put inside waterproof door

... Just took M10/35mm skiing in powder at 11,000+ feet. Great pictures... Battery out after 3rd day though due to 8 degrees F

Specification change is hardy a leap of imagination, nor are any of the other suggestions made in this thread - they are all incremental even if technically difficult/pointless. The quote is a bit OTT.

Sorry, you're right, sometimes I tend to just jump into the deep end of the philosophical pool. I'll try to keep the discussion a little more relatable.

So... if you could only have two lens for the new M11, what would they be?  ;)

Poor Leica: So many mutually exclusive items on the individual wish lists...

So, I will happily chime in ;)

(I) What changes do I NEED?

Honestly none! The M10 imho is a near-perfect digital re-interpretation of the RF genre. The camera I have been waiting for, for years!

(II) What changes do I WANT?

1. Longer battery life

2. Apperture estimation in EXIF

3. Improved accessory VF (less lag, no blackout, less eye strain)

4. Sturdier bottom plate closure mechanism (the most flimsy feel of all my M's)

5. Sensor dust removal (only, if body dimensions could be retained and robustness & longevity of body is not jeopardized); the M10 seems to suck in dust like the proverbial Dyson...

(III) What would I be NEUTRAL about?

1. Video option (only if it does not introduce button clutter or detract from still functions)

2. Higer pixel count (will come anyway) if it does not detract from high ISO performance

3. Re-introduction of level (for UWA I personally use accessory EVF anyway)

4. USB connection

(IV) What would I definitely NOT want?

1. Change of OVF to EVF in body

2. Change of form factor

3. Tilting monitor

4. More options on top switch (I definitely hated the accidential "c" setting I often hit on my M9, and I don't see the M as a sports shooter anyway)

5. More buttons on back

6. IBIS (what aint't there won't get broken; if tremor kicks in, I will change to another camera system)

7. Menu feature clutter

If Leica ever polls this thread: What about a dual product line: "M11 'classic' + 'M11 techie'? Otherwise it might be hard to reconcile the different users.

Please do not dilute or overburden the M RF concept. The M10 is great in so many respects!

- in manual lensdetection mode , overuling if there is a 6 bit code on a lens

- extended high iso performance

-electronic shutter in evf mode

-extended battery life

- 2 sd slots and choice for backup from one to other card

- inbuild dioptri adaptor

- no lock on iso button

-better dynamic range in white

- keep in wifi mode while sleep mode

- lowerr price :-)

- changing batery without removing baseplate

- remove frameline handle...no use

-standard mushroom releasebutton

-aparture in exif

-choice for priority to color  view on monitor  when shooting in DNG/JPG black and white

The last one makes no sense at all. The only thing the B&W mode does is switch the JPG and thus LCD to B&W.

What is a better dynamic range in white? The dynamic range is the span from black to white. There is nothing beyond white...
