jmahto Posted March 5, 2018 Share #1 Posted March 5, 2018 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) It doesn't snow in San Francisco bay area but couple of days in a year (not every year), the snow level comes down enough to dust the nearby high mountains white for a short time. This time the snow fall coincided with weekend and I decided to hike up to Rose Peak (close to 4000ft) to touch the snow. The snow level was supposed to be at 3000 ft. The hike was strenuous. Eight and half hr round trip with close to 5000ft+ elevation gain (it has ups and downs). Lower elevations it rained and hailed (small ones hurt like needles on the face) and at higher elevations it snowed. Since there was a good chance for my camera to get wet, I carried M240 with 40 summicron-C (the one I am willing to risk in continuous rain) and 90 macro elmar M in backpack. The camera was carried across the shoulder in the open. I do keep it covered with home made neoprene case but it got thoroughly wet. No direct water hitting it except while shooting but it was soaking wet. By end of the day, VF fogged but I could still focus it. These are some pictures. There is no lack of sharpness from 40summicron-C if you want to pixel peep either. It was partly cloudy when I started. Welcome, dear visitor! pgk Posted March 6, 2018 Share #10 Posted March 6, 2018 The first image in post 5 is the one I like most. IMO this is what photography is all about - going out and taking photos and enjoying yourself. You are in good company when it comes to mountain walking/hiking and Leicas, as I'm discovering more as I look into this 'genre' of photography.

And yes, I like the simplicity of Leica M. One body + one lens is all you need on a hike like this.
