Leica's Newsletter told us they delivered the 90SL since February 8th - but really there are no samples here...

Are there any reviews or samples/raw files of the 90mm Apo SL yet? I've only found examples of the 75mm.

I had put up a side by side comparison shot of SL75 vs SL90 when I tested both lenses earlier but have since deleted the pics after few weeks.

In the German LUF section there are some pictures from a customer event at Leica Headquater with amateur cosplay models.

An interesting event.  How were the Leica chocolates?

...finally the 90SL arrived on Thursday here - wow, an impressive lens!

My first impression:

  • amazing sharp
  • very nice portraits and bokeh
  • it's really small and light - if you're coming from SL-Zooms or Summilux-SL
  • very fast AF (though not excellent), better than Summilux-SL with FW 3.1

A great step forward with the entire SL System.

I could test the 75SL for an hour some weeks ago; feel the 90SL is a little bit more fascinating and expressive - but booth are superb (and very similar) lenses.

Here are some pics from yesterday (sorry, no portraits) in perfect light

(all hand held and wide open):

I picked up mine on Monday. No images yet. However the shots of my fridge magnets I have taken to test it for functionality are super sharp. Even wide open.

It's really quite small and extremely light. A bit longer and wide than the M Summicron but not by a huge margin.A LOT smaller than the SL50 'lux. It also balances on the CL/TL well so it's a viable option for those users as well. On the CL it'll have less DoF than the current M 135 APO on the M10.

These lenses could do really well for Leica, if they actually get out there and market them properly for both systems. Now I have got mine I have changed my opinion on something. They should have released these much much earlier and before the 50 'lux. I still love my SL 50 but it would have been better for the system to have these first.

I picked up my 75 // not 90 // on Sunday and use it with my SL and CL. What a lens it is. Mention it here because 75/90 are cousins and I bet equally good. As Gordon says, I’m really surprised with the size of them, much smaller than 50 or 24-90 zoom. And the hood is small and traditional cylindrical shape. Overall fanstastic package and the 75 has taken a permanent space in my bag, in fact it’s glued to my CL.
