" The lens aperture has no relevance if you are using the rangefinder. Or do you mean it is in focus 'wide open' Edited February 13, 2018 by pedaes
Advertisement Posted February 13, 2018 Posted February 13, 2018 Hi pedaes, Take a look here Regretting buying an M10. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Csacwp Posted February 13, 2018 Author Share #22 Posted February 13, 2018 It does when you take depth of field into account. A more accurate rangefinder shot with a 90 f/2 means more keepers.
Csacwp Posted February 13, 2018 Author Share #23 Posted February 13, 2018 So, I think the vertical alignment is off... the image that moves in the focus patch is a little bit lower than the stationary one. Does anybody know someone in the Baltimore/DC area who can adjust this, or will it have to go to Leica NJ or DAG?
earleygallery Posted February 13, 2018 Share #24 Posted February 13, 2018 Sounds like a case of GAS followed by an attack of buyers remorse complicated by uncertainty. There isn’t a cure but symptoms can be dealt with although not without some discomfort and other side effects,
Jeff S Posted February 13, 2018 Share #25 Posted February 13, 2018 Or exchange it if there’s a legitimate issue. Jeff
Csacwp Posted February 13, 2018 Author Share #26 Posted February 13, 2018 Or exchange it if there’s a legitimate issue. Jeff I've read that a misaligned rangefinder is normal, and that these often come from the factory with the vertical alignment off. The horizontal alignment seems to be dead on, with the exception that all of my lenses seem to be focusing a tiny bit past infinity.
Jeff S Posted February 13, 2018 Share #27 Posted February 13, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) Regardless, you can fix it yourself, have Leica or DAG fix it, or let your dealer worry about it. I offered the latter approach as an option. That’s a reason to use good dealers. I haven’t experienced a RF alignment problem with a new M, and have used many M models since the early 80’s. Csacwp Posted February 13, 2018 Author Share #28 Posted February 13, 2018 I emailed Leica NJ to see if they'll do it while I wait. They're just a few hours drive away, and I figure it'd be cheaper to go up there than to ship the camera.
Jeff S Posted February 13, 2018 Share #29 Posted February 13, 2018 Gas, tolls, food and time... versus $50 or so shipping... and that’s if your dealer isn’t kind enough to pay your shipping. Jeff
Csacwp Posted February 13, 2018 Author Share #30 Posted February 13, 2018 I'd skip the tolls and figured I'd take some photos along the way.
Jeff S Posted February 13, 2018 Share #31 Posted February 13, 2018 Would have been cheaper to keep it in the box. Jeff

jaapv Posted February 14, 2018 Share #33 Posted February 14, 2018 There is a perfect cure: just start using the thing and be happy.

lct Posted February 14, 2018 Share #35 Posted February 14, 2018 A misaligned rangefinder is not a big deal but is not normal in a new body. It must be fixed for free by the dealer. Just make sure it won't take several weeks otherwise i would ask for refund or a replacement.
jaapv Posted February 14, 2018 Share #36 Posted February 14, 2018 This forum!i wonder where on this forum; it happens occasionally but not often. Easily fixed too.
Csacwp Posted February 14, 2018 Author Share #37 Posted February 14, 2018 Yes, it’s an easy fix. The rest of the camera seems to be in good order, so I’d rather keep it than exchange.
pgh Posted February 14, 2018 Share #38 Posted February 14, 2018 (edited) You've possibly seen me lodge a fair number of complaints recently on this forum, (if you have gone through recent threads at least) - from remarks about the sensor to the quality control (I had to send mine back twice for warranty work that should have never happened.) After all of that, and the fact that for me this was the most significant financial outlay I've made in years (my car is worth half of what I spent on the thing) I still don't regret getting it. It needs work in some area IMO, but still. I may have come close to regret during the repair processes, but most have a better experience than I, (you probably will too), and it is still my favorite digital camera that I've owned (I have a fair amount of reference points). Use it, and I think you'll probably feel the same way. Edited February 14, 2018 by pgh

abrewer Posted February 14, 2018 Share #40 Posted February 14, 2018 Time to buck up, cowboy. You bought this thing to use, so use it. You are in the US, as I recall, so you bought it new with a Passport Warranty of three years that will cover any problems you encounter. My experience with electronics of all sorts is that if they work well for the first month they will work well until they are well past their prime; so you are in an ideal spot if any issues arise. My friend, I can guarantee you that next year the M10 will cost $500 more than it does now; and then $500 or more to move up to the next M the year following; then $500 or more to move up to the next M after the turn of the decade. If you don't buy it now, chances are you won't in the future. Relax. Enjoy. SHOOT!!!
